Anyone hear of a zoning official issuing arrest warrant before summons?

The local township decided to investigate a variety of semi trailers, shipping containers and the like. Everyone with one on their property was given a copy of the zoning rules in June. The rules state unless they're on property zoned Agriculture and being used for them, or are a tool shed for current construction, they are not allowed. The local zoning enforcement officer told everyone the township would be looking into if anyone was in compliance.

This week 3 business owners in the township were given arrest warrants. Luckily the local PD found out and contacted each to bond out without anyone going to jail. None of the 3 business owners had received any further notice from the township, nothing with a date on when their trailer or container had to be removed, no court summons, no further letter. Instant arrest warrant. The local Deputy who has worked the township for years said he's never seen anything like this happen before.

The Ag trailers were found to be all right. A few construction containers were allowed.

I was shocked that a zoning administrator had this sort of power.

The court hearing is later this month, the entire community is waiting to see what happens next.

Has anyone else had this sort of thing happen in their area?

So are they trying to crack down on the architectural trend of converting shipping containers into domiciles? Some very nice houses in tony neighborhoods have been built utilizing shipping containers.

There are local rules that a house has to be over something like 600 square feet so it would have to be multiple containers to make a home. Also a person has to go through a few steps including architect stamped prints to build something new. If someone wanted to use shipping containers as material it should be alright if they have an architect working with them.

This is for a few people having trailers or shipping containers purely as storage, be it for tools, equipment, or other things.

Very jackboot feeling on what has happened

A recap of what has happened on this :

1 day before the court hearing, the issue was thrown out, bond money was returned to the 3.

At the January Township meeting the supervisor said he was the one to say get the arrest warrant, none of the other 4 board members knew about it. The clerk was very upset that this happened and they never had him send even a letter. As far as anyone can tell this has never happened before. Perhaps not surprisingly one of the people who had an arrest warrant helped with a successful recall on the current supervisor about 8 years ago.

The township is in the process of changing their rules so zoning issues are civil and get tickets. Still a number of unresolved issues on the whole process

What an intimidation racket - arrest someone, throw it out 1 day before the hearing.

Proper remedy: hunt the supervisor anonymously and beat him rather soundly with iron bars with the warning that if he ever errs again or tells anyone anything other than he fell down a staircase, he will face far worse treatment... and that his family might not be safe. The last bit, of course, is a lie - but if they can intimidate, why not the rest of us? I say fight fire with iron bars.

Beating these bastards until they pray for Death's kind mercy is what needs to happen in such cases. If this became commonplace, you'd see this sort of thing come to a sudden and screeching halt.

The people of America have taken this "tolerance" thing WAY too far.
