During the flight, Glenn uttered a phrase that he would repeat frequently throughout life: 'Zero G, and I feel fine.'
    RIP, John Glenn

It took a hell of a lot of courage to do the things he did.

If you have not seen or read it, "The Right Stuff" is well worth it.

    RIP John.

While most all of the exploits of these men were on the taxpayer's back, I'd much rather have my money spent on bad ass "mad men" tearing up the $#@! and pushing the envelope on all manner of historic flights and space travel, instead we now get government financed safe spaces.

The passing of John Glenn, one of America’s most famous NASA astronauts, marks the end of an era for American exceptionalism. While many will focus on the scientific miracle that allowed Glenn to become the first American to orbit the earth, Glenn himself noted that God was also an inseparable part of that miracle.

The most dangerous thing you can do in the immediate future will be to give yourself up unconsciously to the influences which are definitely present.” ~ Rudolf Steiner

Some are calling him the "last American hero". Small, rural town boy marries his childhood sweetheart. Married over 70 years. Joins Marines. Honored for his combat skills. Joins astronaut program. First American to orbit the Earth (Russia beat us there). Becomes head of RC Cola. US Senator. Returns to space on the space shuttle as the oldest person in space. Succeeded in everything he tried to do while keeping grounded and humble.

He did fail to win the Democratic nomination for President in 1984. But he married and stayed with a handicapped women, which is admirable for such an ambitious man.

Astronaut John Glenn to be buried at Arlington Cemetery

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Final funeral rites for astronaut John Glenn will take place Thursday at Arlington National Cemetery.

His family and invited guests, including astronauts and dignitaries, will say goodbye to the first American to orbit Earth at a private service at the Old Post Chapel beginning at 9 a.m.

The U.S. Marine Corps will begin a live stream at 9:40 a.m. that will include a processional to the graveside by caisson, a flyover, a graveside service and taps. The event ends at 10:25 a.m.

Glenn died Dec. 8 at age 95.

Thousands of mourners visited his casket as it lay in repose at the Ohio Statehouse, and roughly 2,500 people attended a public “celebration of life” for the former fighter pilot, history-making astronaut and longtime Democratic U.S. senator from small-town Ohio.

well, it probably was good for NASA to have a Senator in Congress.

From The Right Stuff, it seems he was not everyone's favorite . . .
except maybe all the "white coats" that did all sorts of weird things to the 7 Mercury astronauts.

Good thing Gus Grissom got some bugs out of the ocean landings with the sub-orbital Liberty Bell 7
before John Glenn's first US full orbital spaceflight.

Great youtube video . . . Godspeed John Glenn
