Hegemons undeterred and unashamed: Largest in History $1.15 Billion US Arms Sale to Saudis going forward
& UK is 'OK' w/ Saudi Arms sales Theresa May sez it's "Keeping Great Britain Safe"

    ===================

British PM defends selling arms to Saudi Arabia

The British prime minister has strongly defended her country’s arms sales to Saudi Arabia
which is accused of war crimes in Yemen.
Theresa May insists that establishing close ties with Saudi Arabia
    keeps people in Britain safe.

May made the comments in response to criticism by the opposition Leader Jeremy Corbyn
who had demanded a halt to arms sales to Saudi Arabia.
Corbyn said the Saudi war has caused "humanitarian devastation" in Yemen.
He spoke after a parliamentary committee said it was highly likely
that British weapons were used in Yemen in violation of international law.

Yemen: ‘Killers’ Can Give No Peace

Yemen: ‘Killers’ Can Give No Peace
    http://journal-neo.org/2016/09/08/ye...give-no-peace/

U.S secretary of state John Kerry and his Saudi counterpart announced, in the last week of August, the new plan, having a “fair and sensible approach” about restarting negotiations in Yemen—a country facing worst humanitarian crisis due to the indiscriminate bombing by the Saudia led coalition forces, using U.S. sold bombs and aircrafts. … Saudia Arabia … is still to play a “central part” in facilitating this process. “… indicate not only how non-serious a plan this really is but also that the U.S., the self-proclaimed champion of democracy, has no regard for human rights violations caused by its ally.

The spuriousness of this “new ” plan … inevitably requires the Houthis to surrender, the Houthis were not involved, nor were they invited to discuss their country’s future. Even the so-called “internationally recognized” government … was not represented in the talks …

instead of putting pressure on Saudi to prevent it from targeting civilian targets, Kerry called on the Houthis to stop shelling Saudi Arabia, pull back from Sanaa and transfer their weapons to a third party … Needless to say, and in an unsurprising a manner … Houthi rejected it …

now Kerry has to somehow modify many of his demands in the plan, because Yemeni forces have already penetrated deep into Saudi Arabia’s southern Najran region … and can target their missiles at the installations of Saudi Arabia’s state-run oil company, Aramco …

The U.S. … continues to sell weapons … within the U.S. there is ample realization that the war of atrocities in Yemen that has so far cost $14 billion in damage and economic loses is actually being fought against civilians rather than any potential or actual ‘terror network.’ …

With Yemenis being asked to accept the “new plan”, which is nothing but a virtual invitation to give in to Saudi Arabia’s imperialist whims, and with attacks within Saudi Arabia increasing, what we can expect to see happening in the near future is Saudi Arabia having to concede more concession, which the House of Saud is traditionally disinclined to give, and leave the space well open for the Yemenis themselves to decide their future among themselves, for as long as the ‘killers’ continue to dictate terms of peace, true peace would remain an illusion only. …

Houthis kill three Qatari soldiers in Najran, Saudi Arabia

The Qatari armed forces confirmed on Monday night that three of their soldiers
were killed by Houthi fighters in Saudi Arabia's Najran province.
They did not specify the context of their deaths.

Earlier on Monday, Houthi fighters clashed with Saudi forces killing six of their soldiers.

PressTV reported that four snipers were gunned down in the Kingdom’s Najran province,
and two others were killed in Yemeni army's shelling of military positions in the kingdom’s province of Assir.

Qatar sends 1,000 soldiers to Yemen

Sanaa, Yemen (12:50 P.M.) - Qatar is the latest Gulf country to mobilize their forces
to help the Saudi-led Coalition after four of their own soldiers were killed yesterday in Yemen.

According to a report released by Al-Jazeera News today,
approximately 1,000 Qatari soldiers, 200 armored vehicles, and 30 Apache helicopters
were deployed to Yemen to participate in the Saudi-led aggression.

#Saudi Army in serious trouble as #Houthi Forces reach outskirts of #Najran

NAJRAN, SAUDI ARABIA (12:20 P.M.) - The Saudi Royal Army is in serious trouble at Najran in southern Saudi Arabia,
following the arrival of the Houthi forces at the southern outskirts of this strategic city.

According to local activists, the Houthi forces, backed by the Yemeni Republican Guard,
have reached the last village at Najran's southern perimeter,
leaving only a small buffer-zone for the Saudi Royal Army
before the anti-government forces reach the city.

The Houthi forces and their allies are now attacking the village of Nahuqa,
where they are engaged in a fierce battle with the Saudi Royal Army and Hadi loyalists.

    Should Najran fall to the Houthi forces in the coming weeks;
this will require the Saudi Army to send in a large number of reinforcements to the Saudi-Yemeni border
in order to recapture a large chunk of their country that has already been lost.

Yemen Has Become the Graveyard of the Obama Doctrine

The human costs of facilitating Saudi Arabia’s proxy war have been enormous, and there’s no end in sight.
This past Tuesday, President Barack Obama delivered his final speech to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Though he tried to sound optimistic, he couldn’t help but strike a rueful tone. Gone was the global media darling who electrified world leaders in 2009—that Obama was “determined to act boldly and collectively on behalf of justice and prosperity at home and abroad.” The graying, deliberate Obama of 2016 could offer only limited aspirations of a “course correction” in world politics, while pondering why cycles of conflict and suffering persisted. Though the president advocated for the “hard work of diplomacy” in places like Syria, he also elaborated on one of his recent, common refrains, cautioning that in the Middle East “no external power is going to be able to force different religious communities or ethnic communities to co-exist for long.” Across the region, “we have to insist that all parties recognize a common humanity and that nations end proxy wars that fuel disorder,” Obama said.

A day later, the U.S. Senate held a rare debate on the sale of arms destined for another war in the Middle East. The deal, for $1.15 billion in weaponry to Saudi Arabia, including over 150 Abrams tanks, is a drop in a bucket: more than $100 billion in arms sales to the kingdom have already been approved by the Obama administration. But a year and a half into the kingdom’s relentless war in Yemen, opponents of the new sale see it as an outright affirmation of Washington’s involvement in a deadly, strategically incoherent war that the White House has kept largely quiet about. What’s more, it is at odds with Obama’s apparent distaste for regional proxy wars.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has targeted Yemen’s Shia Houthi militias and their allies, loyalists of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who two years ago seized the Yemeni capital Sanaa by force. Several months later, they drove the Saudi-backed President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi into exile. When Saudi King Salman announced the intervention in Yemen—an intervention the kingdom has painted as a proxy war with Iran, its regional foe—the White House immediately authorized a support package that included intelligence-sharing and logistical support for military operations. That package has seen the United States deliver more than 40 million pounds of fuel to Saudi jets over the past 18 months, according to U.S. Central Command. The Saudis would be crippled without direct U.S. military assistance, particularly aerial refueling, which continues unabated.

Supporters of the new arms package portrayed it as necessary support after the Obama administration’s landmark nuclear deal with Iran. To them, Yemen is a proxy war, and the United States must side with the Gulf—never mind the absence of direct evidence of wide-scale Iranian meddling in the Houthi rebellion. “Blocking this sale of tanks will be interpreted by our Gulf partners, not just Saudi Arabia, as another sign that the United States of America is abandoning our commitment in the region and is an unreliable security partner,” Arizona Senator John McCain said, depicting the very dynamic Obama appeared to warn against the day before. “That’s what this vote is all about.”

    continues...
