The USS Gerald Ford - A $13 Billion Boondoggle?

What is $3 billion over budget, two years overdue, and not combat ready? The new USS Gerald Ford "super" aircraft carrier! As the Pentagon together with the military-industrial complex try to justify a trillion dollars in military spending, however, conflicts must be ginned up around the world. That is one reason for the increasingly hostile position of the US against Russia and China. It justifies boondoggles like the USS Gerald Ford. It also essentially pushes Russia and China into each other's arms and may be making a nuclear war more likely in the future. Is it really worth it just to keep Beltway defense contractors in the money? More on the 13 billion dollar boondoggle and the policies that ensure many more to come in today's Liberty Report:

U.S. Navy Tests New Aircraft Carrier USS Gerald R. Ford

The U.S. Navy has tested the new aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford following years of delays.

The carrier got underway on Saturday with more than a thousand Navy sailors on board, along with hundreds of officials and workers, to test its systems in the first of its sea trials, the Associated Press reported.

The carrier, which costs $12.9 billion, left from the Huntington Ingalls Industries-Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virginia after years of delay and cost overruns.

Building on the Ford began in 2009, with a goal of finishing by September 2015 at a budget of $10.5 billion. Issues with the carrier's advanced systems and technology delayed its completion.The carrier will return to its Virginia port before going underway again for "acceptance trials," the AP reported.

Supercarrier USS Gerald R Ford starts sea trials

it will carry a complement of 4,660 sailors and will operate over 70 aircraft built around a wing of Lockheed Martin F-35C -
- the carrier variant of the F-35 combat aircraft. It will also carry a mix of helicopters and support aircraft.

The three F-35 variants have similar performance characteristics, and are mainly distinguished by their different basing requirements.
As a result, the F-35B and F-35C variants have unique ways to take off and land.

I would make them scarier by giving them better names of greater leaders who all feared . Pontiac , Tecumseh etc

. . . might be tough for the US Navy to get the trademark for the hat logos,etc. - LOL jus' sayin' . . .Washington Redskins(tm)

But USS Gerald Ford might be more "stealth"-y (?)
