Shocker: The Most Libertarian State Has Lowest Poverty Rates in America
    http://lfb.org/shocker-libertarian-s...rates-america/

--Pop quiz time: Can you guess what the following state is?

    It has…

    • The highest quality of life in the country and the lowest poverty rate…
    • No income taxes or sales tax…
    • No seatbelt laws and no mandatory car insurance (although over 90% have coverage)…
    • Abolished the state minimum wage law and… surprise… has the lowest youth and adult unemployment rates in America…
    • The highest income mobility for minorities…
    • The smallest homeless population in America, too…
    • Strong personal self-defense protections, with one of the lowest crime rates in the country…
    • Banned the use of license plate readers by cops and red-light cameras on the streets…

    Know what it is?

If you haven’t guessed already, it’s New Hampshire [the “Live Free or Die” state]. And the [most] libertarian state has just been ranked #1 freest state by Jason Sorens and William Ruger in their CATO study, Freedom in 50 States. Moreover, for good measure, Andrew DePietro of GoBankingRates.com also conducted a study on the best and worst states for raising a family and living a richer life and came to the same conclusion. …

But the Live Free or Die state has reason for good cheer. … New Hampshire ranks as the freest state in the Union based on a range of metrics for both personal and economic freedom. … New Hampshire’s state government taxes less than any other but Alaska’s. The local tax burden is higher than average, but citizens have ample choice among local governments when buying a home. State debt and subsidies to business are low. Incarceration rates and drug arrest rates are below average. Gun rights are relatively strong, and the state has risen to above average on educational freedom over the last couple of years. The 2011-12 Legislature repealed the state’s costly certificate of need law for new hospital construction. Government is small and fiscally responsible. …

I would image that the most liberal states have some of the highest poverty. I wonder if that is right...

I am a libertarian. I am advocating everyone enjoy maximum freedom on both personal and economic issues as long as they do not bring violence unto others.

The state that was governed by a presidential candidate has the highest child poverty rate in the nation.

I disagree with the solutions in the article, but the fact remains that a so-called Libertarian governor did not improve the prospects of kids in his state.

Neither. They are both just statements of observed correlations.

No explanation ("simple" or otherwise) was provided for either. That was the point.

They rank Texas really low. I always hear Texas nationalists like Willy talking up Texas. Anyone from Texas can tell us what gives?

One of the competing founding stories of the GOP is that it was created in NH. Starting in the 1990s, NH became a swing state. It is the most swinging of all of the swing states. VT, up until the NYers started taking it over in the 1970s, was historically one of the most Republican states in the nation. Now VT is perhaps one of the most Democrat states in the nation, but it still often votes in moderate Republican governors. ME used to be mostly Republican. Now it mostly votes Democrat but is somewhat of a swing state, especially in areas away from the Portland metro.

Yet another interesting tale of the results of mass immigration.

Who could have guessed having massive amounts of people very different from the natives move in could ever, ever change things there? Ever! That would never happen. You must be mistaken, Keith.
