What do people expect? The person was speeding. That is a capital offense. The courts are bogged down with too many cases. There should be a zero tolerance for law breakers. Imagine how terrible that cop must feel after having to gun down a person for speeding. Those officers have it rough. The DLM faction of the ALM will not be pleased.

Why are deaf people allowed to be out on our roads? That right there sounds like a dangerous situation that should be investigated.

Nah, contempt of cop can be a capital offense though, all depending upon what the Enforcer wishes to do.

Funny, when I first read about this on another board everyone was assuming it was some "dindu" thug who pulled a gun on the trooper -- turns out it was an unarmed deaf guy who maybe was confused and didn't know what to do -- which can result in a roadside execution if you do it to the wrong Enforcer.

Not "police misconduct" -- just a state trooper doing his "job" , keeping us all safe.

Cop Shoots and Kills Unarmed Deaf, Mute Man as He Tries to Communicate Using Sign Language

Charlotte, NC — A community and family is mourning the loss of Daniel Kevin Harris, whose life was taken this week by a State Trooper who apparently fears sign language. Harris, who is deaf and mute, was gunned down in front of his house.

According to police, trooper Jermaine Saunders attempted to pull Harris over around 6:14 p.m. on Thursday. For an unknown reason, Harris did not stop and, instead, drove to his home.

During the pursuit, both cars became damaged and eventually came to a stop near Harris’ home.

“I was here in my driveway and I saw the highway patrol car come through and it was smoking really bad,” said neighbor Mark Barringer. “About 10 seconds later, I heard one gunshot.”

According to WCNC, Barringer says when he went to take a closer look, he saw Harris in the middle of the street. He died just a few feet from his front door. Several neighbors have put flowers near where Harris took his final breaths.

“It was surreal, you just don’t expect to see something like that,” said Barringer. “When the gunshot went off, it was scary.”

According to police, detectives say Saunders and Harris got into “an encounter” before the officer killed him.

However, according to neighbors, as soon as Harris got out of his vehicle, Saunders fired.

“While on Seven Oaks Drive, the driver exited his vehicle and an encounter took place between the driver and the trooper causing a shot to be fired,” according to a statement from the State Highway Patrol.

Detectives say Harris was trying to communicate with the trooper using sign language before he was killed.

Harris died on the scene. He was 28-years-old.

“They should’ve deescalated and been trained to realize that this is an entirely different situation, you’re pulling someone over who is deaf, they are handicapped,” said Barringer. “To me, what happened is totally unacceptable.”

Neighbor Ryan Russell said he’d see the man out in the neighborhood speaking in sign language with his family. “It seemed like a very peaceful family,” Russell told WBTV. “These things are always heartbreaking.”

Audria Bridges, special agent in charge of the SBI office that covers the Charlotte region, said Saunders has been placed on administrative leave and an investigation is underway.

“The SBI is in the process of obtaining all available dash cam or body camera video present on the scene from the State Highway Patrol as well as Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, as CMPD responded to the scene immediately after the shooting,” Bridges said.

According to the Charlotte Observer, public records show an interpreter provided sign language for Harris at a court hearing in Florida in 2010. At the hearing, he was found not guilty of misdemeanor larceny and had a charge of misdemeanor resisting property recovery dismissed, records show.

Harris was found guilty of resisting an officer in 2010 when he lived in Connecticut, according to public records. However, this resisting charge was likely due to the fact that Harris could not hear the officer’s commands.

In the land of the free, a deaf man suspected of driving too fast can be killed in cold blood. Unfortunately, as we’ve shown time and again, this type of mistreatment and attacks on the deaf by police are all too common.

It is indeed very dangerous, as evidenced by this thread.

Its a tragic situation, at least on the bright side the Officer is OK.

O.K.? Can you imagine the inner turmoil he is feeling after having feared for his life at the hands of a deaf man? And now he is on paid leave so he cannot deal with PTSD like real men do, by working through it.

Exactly. Not if they're shot by cops. If they are shot by some crazed gunman high on prescription psychotropic drugs wielding an AR-15 then that matters to Piers Morgan, CNN and BS-NBC. If they are shot by some illegal immigrant then that matters to Donald Trump and Fox News. But a white man shot by a cop? Which political leech can benefit from that?

The cop probably thought the deaf man was flipping him off in French. Or maybe he thought the man was going to do some deadly kung fu with his fingers.

So his family set up a page to help with funeral costs and to better train officers on how to deal with deaf people. Noble, to be sure, but he wasn't killed because of his impairment. He was killed because of this kind of training:

Are you familiar with the work of William J. Lewinski? Unless you are a police officer, that name probably doesn't ring a bell. It didn't for me, either, until I learned that in many ways he is father, architect and chief defender of the modern police brutality epidemic. As founder and director of the Force Science Institute, he has trained tens of thousands of police officers to shoot first and ask questions later.

He doesn't deny it. It's what he's famous for. It's why police departments all over America lean on him as their resident expert to justify shooting and killing virtually anybody and everybody who gives them even a remote suspicion that they may pose a serious risk.

August 22, 2016 by Hays Post
    joseph Weber

    Joseph N. Weber

OAKLEY–Funeral arrangements have been made for Joseph Weber on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Oakley.

Weber was killed after an incident following a brief chase in Hays on Thursday, Aug. 18, leading to a Hays Police officer shooting Weber near a disability training home operated by New Age Services, 2321 Timber Dr.

Details surrounding the shooting have yet to be released, leading to many in the community speculating about the use of force in the death of the 36-year-old. Weber worked at Joe Bob Outfitters of Hays, 4850 General Hays Rd, and was associated with New Age Services.

A news release from the Ellis County Attorney’s Office said Weber was not obeying officer commands after being stopped in the 2700 block of Plaza Ave at 2:33 p.m. last Thursday.

The vehicle then accelerated as it was pursued by HPD before stopping in the 2300 block of Timber Dr. where Weber got out of the vehicle.

The release further said the incident escalated until at approximately 2:41 p.m. one shot was fired by a Hays police officer, striking Weber who died from the gunshot wound.

The shooting is under investigation by the Ellis County Coroner Dr. Lyle Noordhoek, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.

Further information has not been released from the Ellis County Attorney

DA: No charges for trooper who fatally shot deaf man following chase in northeast CLT

    CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
No charges will be filed against the NC Highway Patrol Trooper who fatally shot a man with a hearing and speech impairment in August 2016, the District Attorney said Monday.

DA Andrew Murray says it was not unreasonable for trooper Jermaine Saunders to fire his weapon Aug. 18, fatally striking 29-year-old Daniel Kevin Harris.

The incident happened on Seven Oaks Drive near Rocky River Road. Officials from the State Highway Patrol said that shortly after 6 p.m. troopers tried to stop a Volvo on I-485 near the 30-mile marker for a speeding violation. Harris reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour during the seven-mile chase that led vehicles to Seven Oaks Drive, court documents show.

"There is no dispute that Trooper Saunders shot and killed Daniel Harris," Murray said. The SBI conducted an investigation into whether Saunder's actions were unlawful.

"Given the choices faced by Trooper Saunders, the compressed window of time in which he had to evaluate the situation and act, along with the stress of the situation, I have concluded it was not unreasonable for Trooper Saunders to fire his weapon. Therefore, no charges will be filed against Trooper Saunders in this case," Murray stated.
