5 times Hillary Clinton was caught up in a big scandal

A report on the administrative failures that led to the death of four Americans in Benghazi was released Tuesday, and some fault was placed on Hillary Clinton, making this the latest in a long string of scandals that the presidential nominee has been caught up in.

A report on the administrative failures that led to the death of four Americans in Benghazi was released Tuesday, and some fault was placed on Hillary Clinton, making this the latest in a long string of scandals that the presidential nominee has been caught up in.

According to CNN, the 800-plus page report released by the partisan panel of conservatives indicates a sufficient amount of intelligence was available to order either the closing or the upgrade of the Libyan U.S. embassy amidst ongoing violence and turmoil in the region. If made, that decision would have been left up to Secretary Clinton.

"What we did find was a tragic failure of leadership -- in the run up to the attack and the night of -- and an administration that, so blinded by politics and its desire to win an election, disregarded a basic duty of government: Tell the people the truth," the panel suggested.

And since we're in that truth-telling business ourselves, Briefing has come up with five other scandals involving Clinton from her time as Arkansas' first lady to her varying roles in Washington, D.C.

1. Travelgate

Employees of the White House Travel Office were fired in 1993 by President Bill Clinton, after serving 7 other presidents. Critics of the Clintons claimed it was in order to pave the way for the First Couple's wealthy friends to take over the $31 million enterprise. Hillary herself was at the center of five separate investigations involving the firings, and a 2000 report by Independent Counsel Robert Ray in revealed she had made false statements about the scandal. That followed a 1998 ruling, however, that exonerated her husband in the issue.

2. Whitewater Investigation

Whitewater Development Corporation was the Clinton family's joint real estate venture with Jim and Susan McDougal, and was investigated for fraud. Hillary became the only FLOTUS to be subpoenaed by a Grand Jury over the matter, and her Rose Law Firm was found to have unusual ties to a $300,000 loan made to Mrs. McDougal in the company's real estate deal. Billing records from the transaction purportedly made their way to Vince Foster, a colleague of Hillary's, and the center of a separate scandal revolving around his untimely death. Mrs. McDougal went to prison over the matter for refusing to speak with federal prosecutors, and several of the Clintons' friends were indicted with federal charges in the Whitewater scandal.

3. Cattlegate

Although there were no official investigations into the matter, it raised eyebrows when the First Lady of Arkansas made an initial investment of $1,000 in cattle futures that would quickly turn into $100,000 without any work as a trader on the part of Hillary Clinton. She was guided by James Blair, a friend, who also served as legal counsel to Tyson Foods -- the largest employer in the state of Arkansas. Critics suggested that the Clintons were influenced by the money and became bedfellows with Tyson's allies.

4. Filegate

The Clintons stirred up controversy after a Machiavellian move was made to secure FBI background reports on several hundred Republican officials, and Hillary again was at the center of the controversy. As FLOTUS she is said to have requested and read the documents for political purposes, but several investigations by the House, Senate and Independent Counsel yielded too little evidence for an indictment. Kenneth Starr again exonerated she and her husband Bill from involvement in the matter.

5. $6B gone missing

As Secretary of State, Hillary was consumed in scandals from Benghazi to her use of a private e-mail server. Also under her watch as Madam Secretary, the State Department "misplaced" $6 billion in taxpayer money for projects concerning contractors. The inspector general cited “significant financial risk and demonstrates a lack of internal control over the Department’s contract actions,” and called into question such unfinished projects as the $80 million U.S. Consulate in northern Afghanistan.

However, as this video states, “negotiators from the parties that helped broker the Good Friday agreement in 1998 told the Daily Telegraph that her role was peripheral and that she played no part in the grueling political talks over the years.”

Pardon Gate: Just before leaving office, Bill Clinton pardoned 450 including several pardons personally benefitting Hillary Clinton that were investigated for direct ties to her NY senate bid, including Marc Rich, a billionaire fugitive and ex-wife Denise Rich who funneled millions into Clinton funds. Other that had direct ties with Hillary that received pardons were “New Square Four”, a Jewish group who had defrauded the Government of millions. Carlos Vignali and Almon Braswell who paid high fees to Hillary’s brother Hugh Rodham.

16. Election Reporting Violation, 2000 Hillary New York Senate Election Campaign: The largest election fraud in US history. In July 2000, Hillary was recorded calling and thanking felon Peter Paul for organizing a gala event. She said it cost $500,000 instead of $1.5 million. Hillary was fined $50,000 for intentional under-reporting.

17. Ethical Code Violations, Hillary’s New York Senate Term: Hillary helped secure millions in federal assistance for a New York developer who donated $120,000 to the Clinton Foundation. The Senate Select Committee on Ethics investigated Hillary and determined she broke the Senate Code of Conduct.

18.Hillary’s 2008 Presidential Election Campaign Fraud: Jeffrey Thompson and several other fundraising “bundlers” for Hillary pled guilty to conspiracy and campaign fund law violations.

19. More Illegal Funding: The 4th richest man in Ukraine Donor Victor Pinchuk channeled $8.3 million through the Clinton Foundation violating while she was Secretary of State. At the time Pinchuk was violating agreed sanctions by conducting business with Iran. Hillary as Secretary of State refused to charge Pinchuk.

20. Looting the White House: Hillary and Bill vandalized and looted the White House when they left. Hillary tried to ship furniture to the Clintons’ personal home in Chappaqua, New York. She came under fire when she tried to take $190,000 in gifts and furnishings from the presidential mansion. Additionally, the GAO reported “damage, theft, vandalism and pranks did occur in the White House complex” during the presidential transition including the theft of a presidential seal. Vandalism included glue smeared on desks, broken furniture, offices full of trash and graffiti in a men’s restroom missing doorknobs, medallions and office signs, missing “W” keys form all computer keyboards.

21. Iranian Fundraising: Hillary received funds from an arm of the Iranian government and hired a convicted Iranian-American multimillionaire with ties to Tehran as her national campaign finance director in 2008. The accepted “contributions” from the New York-based Alavi Foundation, which U.S. government prosecutors identified as an arm of the Iranian government. Alavi’s contributions to Clinton came just two days after the Treasury Department designated Alavi’s partner, the New York-based Assa Corp., as a terrorist entity. Also of note, Hillary hired Hassan Nemazee as her national campaign finance director for her 2008 campaign. In 2010, Nemazee was convicted of running a Ponzi scheme in which he obtained $292 million in fraudulent loans. He was sentenced to 12 years.

Well, for starters, Vince Foster was only mentioned in passing in the OP. He should be an entirely separate scandal, in and of himself.

There is also the matter of what was going on at an airport there in AR (Meda? it was that, or a very similar name), which tied the clintons directly into Iran-Contra, bigtime cocaine sales, state troopers running security for that operation, and the death of Barry Seal.

Lots of info out there on both of those topics, but they were never got the MSM attention for very long, or as much as they should have.

Yup, absolutely. Another interesting one that I've heard put forth (can't remember where I heard or read it, though) was that the whole mcveigh thing happened for the reason of destroying documents and records related to the whitewater investigation, they were supposedly being stored in that building. So if true (it's certainly an interesting theory, and one that makes sense), that would tie the clintons into that, too.
