Please Set Aside Pride, and Try to Influence Trump

I know many of us are very upset with the ascendancy of Trump. I have major problems with him too. However, I think it is obvious that he has a good chance to defeat Hillary in the General election. So I would like to see more liberty and non interventionist minded people provide feedback to his campaign, so that we can have more influence. One thing is clear. The neocon friendly pundits like Hannity and Oreilly are pushing Trump to select fools like Gingrich for VP and the horrible John Bolton for Sec. of State. Both Bolton and Gingrich are making Trump friendly statements. It is obvious that they do not want to be left out when and if Trump wins. They want to have influence. Last night, I caught a bit of the Hannity show and he had a neocon friendly Democratic pollster named Doug Shoen on his show. Shoen said that he hoped that Trump would pick Bolton. He said he would be an excellent choice. He said Russia, China are looking to destroy us so we need someone like Bolton. Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course Hannity seemed pleased with this recommendation.

So how can WE influence Trump to consider better choices? One simple way is to send a short message to his contact page: https://www.donaldjtrump.com/contact I just sent a message. I don't think a few messages will get much attention, but if a lot of us, even the ones who detest Trump, can make it clear that we do not support choices like Bolton, I believe we can have an impact. I will also be contacting Senator Sessions since Trump seems to be leaning on him for advice. Sessions has called for a less aggressive, less interventionist foreign policy.

Sadly, I don't think Trump is that knowledgeable about the motives of a person like Bolton. Remember that Trump was condemning the Iraq War and saying he wanted a positive relationship with Russia, throughout his campaign, at the same time that he was praising John Bolton. Bolton has repeatedly insisted that the Iraq War was a good idea and that he would support it again today even with all that has happened. Bolton has also joined in the chorus of those who are demonizing Russia and Iran.

Neocons are fairly incorrigible. But unless a lot of people make it clear to Trump that they do want someone like Bolton, Trump is likely to rely on idiots like Sean Hannity and Bill O'reilly for advice about who to select.

Please be an influencer of Trump. Doesn't mean you support him, but he doesn't have to know that. Just make your wishes known. Maybe we can pressure Trump to stay true to his relatively non interventionist policy statements so far.

You can't influence Trump. He doesn't care about little people like you, grovel all you want but it won't make any difference. Wasted effort.

This isn't news. Trump already has a mind of his own. You'd have to manipulate/satisfy his narcissistic tendencies to get your way (and how would you do that): http://samvak.tripod.com/faq76.html

LOL, albeit hyperbole. The OP however makes a good point since it is really our only option rather than sit on the sidelines. Trump got this far because of his base of support. If what appears to be his supporters objecting to his appointments or nominations the campaign knows it could spell trouble for them in November.

Like any President, Trump will have to work with Congress with his base of support. If he does not have his supporters behind him it would make it far more difficult to lead.
    * See my visitor message area for caveats related to my posting history here.
    * Also, I have effectively retired from all social media including posting here and are basically opting out of anything to do with national politics or this country on federal or state level and rather focusing locally. Hmmm... what will have more influence on trump, my slip of paper in his comments box or his Iran-nuking casino buddy who just gave him $100M?
Partisan politics, misleading or emotional bill titles, and 4D chess theories are manifestations of the same lie—that the text of the Constitution, the text of legislation, and plain facts do not matter; what matters is what you want to believe. define "sit on the sidelines"
“I don’t think that there will be any curtailing of Donald Trump as president,” he said. "He controls the media, he controls the sentiment [and] he controls everybody. He’s the one who will resort to executive orders more so than [President] Obama ever used them." - Ron Paul

One way you do not do that is by groveling and begging. An Alpha like Trump immediately dismisses beggars and grovelers as cucks, and naturally decides they do not matter.

You can buy a Trump or you can scare a Trump, but you cannot petition a Trump. As soon as you abandon your pride, you abandon any chance you may have ever had of gaining his respect.

Who said anything about groveling? Jesus Christ. I never said I was going to vote for him. If he chooses people like Gingrich and Bolton, or signals that he will choose hacks like that, then he has no chance of getting my vote.

Try principles. The things you Trump trolls can't even recognize.

Q: Why do you even want to defeat Hillary if it means electing Trump?
A: Because you're a selfish POS, and whatever it is that drives you, it bears no semblance to morality or love of freedom.

Our goal is to smash Trump. And if you're not on board with that, then it's you who need to swallow your pride.
Who said anything about supporting him? I swear, some of you don't know how to read. I never said support him. I just said influence him. Make him think your vote depends on his choices or his signals about the choices he will make. BIG DIFFERENCE. Would you rather have a Trump you don't like but whose policies are kept in check by the likes of us, or a Trump you don't like who is only getting advice and demands from neocons? Grow up people. This is not about supporting Trump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clinton is his friend. Clinton is obviously very high on the idea of being the first female president. If being a politician were important to Trump, he would have become one long ago.

And revolutions cannot happen if all we can do is say, if you don't clean up this corner of hour platform I'll vote third party. Trump won't be impressed by that. Revolutions are born of fire and passion, or they don't happen.

No, our path is clear, and if it depended on influencing either of these psychos it wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in hell. Could we influence Trump? Maybe. But never by going to him and petitioning him. The only possible way to influence him is to abandon him, and leave him wondering what it would take to get us back in the herd like good little sheep. Nothing less--nothing less--could possibly get the attention of a guy like that.

You were pretty clear about that but evidently some here cannot see through their hatred of Trump to think rationally and strategically.

I really have to question whether it is hatred or some here really do not want to see liberty related legislation to ever see the light of day. There are things the way we want them to be and the reality of having no choice but to work within the two party system to effect change.

See, that propaganda might work on some crowds. The mistake you're making is dumping it here, of all places. There are lots of people here who have been trying to wrest power away form those two allegedly dissimilar but really identical parties for a long time. And what we see is the fact that never in our lifetimes have those two parties nominated a pair of candidates who are so remarkably similar that no one can find a legitimate excuse to claim one is the lesser evil.

We've been waiting for this iron to get this hot for a long time, and we want to strike.

He hasn't lifted a finger to attract an intelligent voter yet, and he hasn't seemed to miss intelligent votes. You want us to run a bluff on him. Fine. Run your bluff on him. Go to him and say, the only way to get the sheep back in the herd is to do the things these influential guys are criticizing you for not doing. See what it gets you.

But we won't make your bluff stronger by standing by your side, hats in hand. That will just cause him to laugh. We can only make your bluff stronger by continuing to do what we are doing.

Why is your join date March 2016 if it's not about supporting Trump?

If you really think we can influence his VP and cabinet picks (which I can't imagine), then why specify doing this just for Trump and not also Hillary?

That's because they don't. Doesn't seem very nice, but nice doesn't run this world.

Uh maybe cause I was a regular poster at thedailypaul.com and didn't know where to go to see comments from other Paul supporters till then? And I think Hillary is more committed to staying the foreign policy course than Trump.

The LP has done it before.

Thread cleaned up and reopened, please keep the discussion on-topic. This isn't a pro-con on Trump and @AtlantaIconoclast made it clear he isn't pro-Trump so don't paint him as such.

    Thanks.

    1. No one complained.
    2. This isn't about supporting Trump; OP's history doesn't seem to reflect that even.
