Kerry said that the United States may take a more aggressive stance in Syria, including the partition of the country, if the current ceasefire and UN process for a political transition fails.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States may take a more aggressive stance in Syria, including the partition of the country, if the current ceasefire and UN process for a political transition fails, US Secretary of State John Kerry told the Senate Appropriations Committee.
"If the Russians and Iranians aren’t serious about having this [Syrian peace process] work, then we got to go to a Plan B, which may be more confrontational and may wind up carving things out," Kerry stated on Wednesday.

Kerry stated previously that in the coming months, the United States will be testing the "seriousness" of all the stakeholders in Syria, to determine whether the Syrian political transition, agreed to in late 2015 by international powers in Geneva, is possible.

In testimony to the Senate on Tuesday, Kerry explained that the US administration is looking at the partition of Syria as a potential fallback option if diplomacy fails.
Secretary Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are leading efforts to implement a cessation of hostilities in Syria, set to go into effect on Saturday. The ceasefire is intended to enable humanitarian aid to besieged cities, and advance the political resolution of the country’s five year long civil war.

If the Russians don't agree, we go to plan B.

That's the sales pitch he says the world is Keynesian and he claims this is the least bad choice we have, he says relax we're the strongest economy because of our middle east policy. If Russia doesn't like it, then they can get out of our world market, and if they keep fighting us on this, then we will carve Syria a new "one". He assures us that Russia doesn't want a long unending occupation in the middle east, he implies it by saying that's something that they definitely don't want to do. We need to teach the populations of these middle east countries that have high percentages of millennial types, we gotta teach them how to behave and that "saving iraq" pays for itself he says its a good investment.

Secretary of State John Kerry said it would take 15,000 to 30,000 ground troops to maintain a so called “safe zone” inside northern Syria, citing previously unheard estimates provided by the Pentagon.

“Now are we ready to authorize that?” Kerry asked a Senate panel today.
