Yeast Is A Cause of Cancer And Turmeric Can Kill Both, Research Confirms

    By: Sayer Ji

A new study validates a controversial cancer theory, namely, that yeast in our body can contribute to not just feeding, but actually causing cancer. Can the ancient healing spice turmeric come to the rescue?

A recent study published in Critical Reviews in Microbiology lends support to the concept that opportunistic Candida albicans (yeast) infection may not just be a consequence of cancer, but is an actively contributing cause as well.

Titled, "Candida albicans and cancer: Can this yeast induce cancer development or progression?", the study provided the following important background information on this controversial subject:

There is currently increasing concern about the relation between microbial infections and cancer. More and more studies support the view that there is an association, above all, when the causal agents are bacteria or viruses. This review adds to this, summarizing evidence that the opportunistic fungus Candida albicans increases the risk of carcinogenesis and metastasis. Until recent years, Candida spp. had fundamentally been linked to cancerous processes as it is an opportunist pathogen that takes advantage of the immunosuppressed state of patients particularly due to chemotherapy. In contrast, the most recent findings demonstrate that C. albicans is capable of promoting cancer by several mechanisms, as described in the review: production of carcinogenic byproducts, triggering of inflammation, induction of Th17 response and molecular mimicry. We underline the need not only to control this type of infection during cancer treatment, especially given the major role of this yeast species in nosocomial infections, but also to find new therapeutic approaches to avoid the pro-tumor effect of this fungal species.

90% of people have candida in their bodies. Do 90% of people have cancer?

    https://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org...ake-illnesses/

One popular fake illness is chronic candidiasis. Candida albicans is a fungus that colonizes about 90% of the population (meaning it is present in the body but not causing an infection or any problems). It can, however, become an infection, usually at times of stress or immunocompromise. The most common manifestations are thrush (a superficial Candida infection in the mouth) and vaginitis, also commonly referred to as a yeast infection.

Candida can also rarely cause serious systemic infection, but this is mostly restricted to those with compromised immune systems, such as patients undergoing chemotherapy or with advanced AIDS.

Candida became the focus of a fake illness beginning in 1986 with the publication of The Yeast Connection by Dr. William Crook. In this book Crook proposed the idea that systemic candidiasis, or Candida hypersensitivity, was responsible for a host of common conditions and non-specific symptoms, such as fatigue, sexual dysfunction, asthma, and psoriasis.

Over 25 years later Candida hypersensitivity remains an unproven claim, but popular among “alternative” practitioners. The claims have also spread, unhindered by logic and evidence.
    Your article notes:
Candida albicans is well known to promote a cascade of inflammatory responses within the body when growing beyond their normal population density due to immunosuppression,
(meaning it is not a problem for "normal" people)

I can't read the actual study- it requires registration to read it.

If tumeric does kill it (along with healthy bacterium) how much a day to you need to consume? (tumeric can cause fertility issues in men and interferes with the absorbtion of iron and can reduce blood clotting). It can also effect your hormone balance. It can also promote some types of cancer like breast cancer. http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supple...tname=turmeric

Gallbladder problems: Turmeric can make gallbladder problems worse. Do not use turmeric if you have gallstones or a bile duct obstruction.

Bleeding problems: Taking turmeric might slow blood clotting. This might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding in people with bleeding disorders.

Diabetes: Curcumin, a chemical in turmeric, might decrease blood sugar in people with diabetes. Use with caution in people with diabetes as it might make blood sugar too low.

A stomach disorder called gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): Turmeric can cause stomach upset in some people. It might make stomach problems such as GERD worse. Do not take turmeric if it worsens symptoms of GERD.

Hormone-sensitive condition such as breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, endometriosis, or uterine fibroids: Turmeric contains a chemical called curcumin, which might act like the hormone estrogen. In theory, turmeric might make hormone-sensitive conditions worse. However, some research shows that turmeric reduces the effects of estrogen in some hormone-sensitive cancer cells. Therefore, turmeric might have beneficial effects on hormone-sensitive conditions. Until more is known, use cautiously if you have a condition that might be made worse by exposure to hormones.

Infertility: Turmeric might lower testosterone levels and decrease sperm movement when taken by mouth by men. This might reduce fertility. Turmeric should be used cautiously by people trying to have a baby.

Iron deficiency: Taking high amounts of turmeric might prevent the absorption of iron. Turmeric should be used with caution in people with iron deficiency.

Surgery: Turmeric might slow blood clotting. It might cause extra bleeding during and after surgery. Stop using turmeric at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.

Turmeric is the business because it contains the powerful cancer-fighting polyphenol Curcumin.

Curcumin has been clinically shown to inhibit growth of various cancer cells including: Bone Cancer, Breast Cancer, Brain Tumors, Colon, Liver, Pancreatic, Stomach, Bladder, Kidney, Prostate, Leukemia, Ovarian, Melanoma, and more!

Curcumin has the ability to block every stage of cancer development, from cell mutation, to tumor growth, to metastasis. It can also kill many different types of cancer cells by triggering apoptosis (programmed cell death) without affecting normal cells. It is because of these known benefits, that curcumin has been the subject of cancer research for many decades.

There are hundreds of published studies demonstrating the anti-cancer power of curcumin, but because the pharmaceutical industry hasn’t figured out how to make a patentable FDA-approved drug out of it, curcumin cannot be used in cancer treatment. This is the reality of “evidence-based medicine”, ignoring all evidence that cannot produce patented profitable drugs.

Google: the cancer cure that worked

Contrary to "germ theory" doctrine, bacteria and viruses change form and size. sort of like a butterfly. Pasteur got it wrong.

This has been known (by some) since the 19th century. Rife saw it in action with his amazing microscope that a) had higher magnification than an optical microscope and b) isolated the life forms using light/resonance rather than chemicals. So he would watch tiny things ALIVE.

modern researchers look at viruses using a) stains and b) electron microsocopes. Both kill the miscrosopic life, thus freezing it.

So says the book "The cancer cure that worked", and I find the evidence presented very compelling.

Future generations will look at the cancer industry of the past 80 years as medieval and primitive. or at least I hope so...

Doctors think that curcumin stays in the digestive system and is absorbed by the cells in the bowel. To find out more, a small study in the UK looked at how curcumin is absorbed from the human gut into liver cells. This study looked at how much of the curcumin is absorbed into both cancer cells and normal cells. This was a very small study of people with bowel cancer that had spread to the liver. They were given curcumin for 7 days before surgery.

During the surgery doctors removed liver tissue and they then then measured the levels of curcumin in the tissue. The results showed that the level of curcumin absorbed into the liver was not high enough to have any anticancer effect. The researchers suggested that future clinical trials of curcumin should focus on preventing bowel tumours. Several studies have shown that curcumin taken as capsules does get absorbed by the gut and is present in the blood. But the amount in the blood is small.

An American phase 2 study reported in 2008. 25 patients had curcumin treatment and 21 had tumours that could be measured. In 2 patients their tumours shrank or remained stable. In some patients their levels of particular immune system chemicals that destroy cancer cells went up. But the researchers found that blood levels of curcumin were very low because it is not well absorbed from the gut. .
Two patients out of 25 is a very low rate and possibly due to other factors.

"not well absorbed in the gut". I guess you have to rub it directly onto the cancer cells for it to work.

Link does not say it helps but that it needs to be looked at.
However, the clinical advancement of this promising molecule has been hindered by its poor water solubility, short biological half-life, and low bioavailability after oral administration. A variety of approaches are being pursued to overcome these limitations, which include synthesis of curcumin analogues, the use of adjuvants (e.g. piperine), and the development of improved delivery platforms for the parental compound, including liposomal, nanoparticulated and phospholipid complex formulations of curcumin. This review is intended to provide the reader an update on the bioavailability and pharmacokinetic pitfalls of free curcumin, and a comprehensive cataloging of ongoing approaches that have been undertaken to resolve these issues, with the goal of harnessing the true potential of this anti-cancer agent in the clinical arena.

Is There Any Other Anti-Cancer Botanical Compound As Exciting As Curcumin?

    by Brian D. Lawenda, M.D.

Curcumin is one of the hottest plant polyphenol extracts being researched, today. Until recently, I was unaware of the extensive history of curcumin research…dating back over 170 years! In the last 10-years, alone, there have been over 4,600 scientific papers published on curcumin. Many of these studies suggest that this compound could be useful in the prevention and treatment of a wide spectrum of medical conditions and physiologic processes (i.e. cancer, inflammatory diseases, cystic fibrosis, Alzheimer’s disease, etc.)

Curcumin is derived from the roots of Curcuma longa, a member of the ginger family. Curcumin is the major component of the Indian spice turmeric, and is responsible for giving turmeric its bright orange-yellow color.

Maybe they were eating too many grains.

I would guess the two patients whose cancer was cured in the study probably had a low grain, low anti-nutrient diet.

Turmeric’s ‘Smart Kill’ Properties Put Chemo & Radiation To Shame

    Sayer Ji, Green Med Info
    Waking Times

The ancient Indian spice turmeric strikes again! A new study finds turmeric extract selectively and safely killing cancer stem cells in a way that chemo and radiation can not.

A groundbreaking new study published in the journal Anticancer Research reveals that one of the world’s most extensively researched and promising natural compounds for cancer treatment: the primary polyphenol in the ancient spice turmeric known as curcumin, has the ability to selectively target cancer stem cells, which are at the root of cancer malignancy, while having little to no toxicity on normal stem cells, which are essential for tissue regeneration and longevity.

Titled, “Curcumin and Cancer Stem Cells: Curcumin Has Asymmetrical Effects on Cancer and Normal Stem Cells,” the study describes the wide range of molecular mechanisms presently identified by which curcumin attacks cancer stem cells (CSCs), which are the minority subpopulation of self-renewing cells within a tumor colony, and which alone are capable of producing all the other cells within a tumor, making them the most lethal, tumoriogenic of all cells within most if not all cancers. Because CSCs are resistant to chemotherapy, radiation, and may even be provoked towards increased invasiveness through surgical intervention, they are widely believed to be responsible for tumor recurrence and the failure of conventional treatment.

The study identified the following 8 molecular mechanisms by which curcumin targets and kills cancer stem cells:

Down-regulation of interleukin-6 (IL-6): IL-6 is classified as a cytokine (a potent biomolecule released by the immune system) and modulates both immunity and inflammation. It’s over expression has been linked to the progression from inflammation to cancer. Curcumin inhibits IL-6 release, which in turn prevents CSC stimulation.
Down-regulation of interleukin-8 (IL-8): IL-8, another cytokine, is released after tumor cell death, subsequently stimulating CSCs to regrow the tumor and resist chemotherapy. Curcumin both inhibits IL-8 production directly and indirectly.
Down-regulation of interleukin-1 (IL-1): IL-1, a family of cytokines, are involved in response to injury and infection, with IL-1 β playing a key role in cancer cell growth and the stimulation of CSCs. Curcumin inhibits IL-1 both directly and indirectly.
Decrease CXCR1 and CXCR2 binding: CXCR1 and CXCR2 are proteins expressed on cells, including CSCs, which respond to the aforementioned cytokines in a deleterious manner. Curcumin has been found to not only block cytokine release, but their binding to these two cellular targets.
Modulation of the Wnt signaling pathway: The Wnt signaling pathway regulates a wide range of processes during embryonic development, but are also dsyregulated in cancer. Curcumin has been found to have a corrective action on Wnt signaling.
Modulation of the Notch Pathway: The Notch signaling pathway, also involved in embryogenesis, plays a key role in regulating cell differentiation, proliferation and programmed cell death (apoptosis), as well as the functioning of normal stem cells. Aberrant Notch signaling has been implicated in a wide range of cancers. Curcumin has been found to suppress tumor cells along the Notch pathway.
Modulation of the Hedgehog Pathways: Another pathway involved in embryogenesis, the Hedgehog pathway also regulates normal stem cell activity. Abnormal functioning of this pathway is implicated in a wide range of cancers and in the stimulation of CSCs and associated increases in tumor recurrence after conventional treatment. Curcumin has been found to inhibit the Hedgehog pathway through a number of different mechanisms.
Modulation of the FAK/AKT/FOXo3A Pathway: This pathway plays a key role in regulating normal stem cells, with aberrant signaling stimulating CSCs, resulting once again in tumor recurrence and resistance to chemotherapy. Curcumin has been found in multiple studies to destroy CSCs through inhibiting this pathway.

As you can see through these eight examples above, curcumin exhibits a rather profound level of complexity, modulating numerous molecular pathways simultaneously. Conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy is incapable of such delicate and “intelligent” behavior, as it preferentially targets fast-replicating cells by damaging their DNA in the vulnerable mitosis stage of cell division, regardless of whether they are benign, healthy or cancerous cells. Curcumin’s selective cytotoxicity, on the other hand, targets the most dangerous cells – the cancer stem cells – which leaving unharmed the normal cells, as we will now learn more about below.

A researcher at Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science is investigating the potential use of non-pathogenic baker's yeast as a promising, natural therapy for cancer.

Dr. Mamdooh Ghoneum presented his findings Feb. 2 at a special conference on "Cell Death Mechanism," sponsored by the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) at the Omni San Diego Hotel in San Diego.

"The central focus of the meeting is cell death regulation and how to mine and exploit it for therapeutic gain," a written evaluation of the AACR special conference states. "This conference includes new complexities of cell death and cell survival, new technologies, and clinical translational aspects necessary for the evolution of new therapeutic strategies."

For more than two decades, Dr. Ghoneum has pursued a theory that cancer cells self destruct when exposed to small quantities of yeast.

In laboratory tests, Dr. Ghoneum exposed cancer cells to yeast and observed as they ingested the yeast -- through a process known as phagocytosis -- and then the cancer cells died. First, he investigated this phenomenon in test tubes (in vitro), introducing yeast to breast, tongue, colon, and skin cancers.

"I have no doubt that I am close to unlocking the mystery as to why cancer cells weaken to the point of destruction after eating common baker's yeast," Dr. Ghoneum said. "The cells just gravitate to the yeast. I call it fatal attraction."

In later experiments, yeast was injected inside the tumors of mice and, again, he observed a decrease in the size of the tumor mass. Then, in his most recent tests, he examined whether yeast could kill cancer cells in mice that had cancer metastasized to the lung. These tests also showed significant clearance of the cancer cells from the lung.

"We observed that when the cancer cells eat the yeast, they die," Dr. Ghoneum said.

The next step, Dr. Ghoneum said, is to conduct clinical trials to determine safety, efficacy of dosage and a method of treatment.

Born in Egypt, Dr. Ghoneum earned his Ph.D. at the University of Tokyo in 1980 and did his postdoctoral studies at UCLA, School of Medicine. Dr. Ghoneum is an internationally recognized immunologist, who is an expert in Cancer Immune Therapy. He holds patents for inventing three biological response modifiers for the treatment of cancer. He has been a researcher and professor at Charles Drew University for twenty-five years, specializing in identifying natural cures for cancer.

Dr. Ghoneum's work has been studied and duplicated by leading scientists worldwide with results published in top medical journals. His findings have been confirmed by similar studies at the U.S. Department of Health and Science, National Institute of Health (NIH).

"There is a possibility that we could find a way to treat not only the local tumor, but the tumor that has spread throughout the body," said Dr. Gus Gill, Chairman Emeritus, Department of Otolaryngology, Charles Drew University. "As a surgeon, I always thought that a better way was to try to get rid of surgery (as a necessity) when dealing with cancer."

Yeast therapy for the treatment of cancer and its enhancement by MGN-3/BioBran, an Arabinoxylan rice bran

    Authors: M.Ghoneum, J.Brown and S.Gollapudi

Abstract: Apoptosis constitutes a strictly programmed device for the removal of aged, damaged and abnormal cells. Research in the last decade has revealed a promising future for apoptosis-based cancer therapies. However, chemotherapeutic agents exhibit an indiscriminative killing that involves both cancer cells and many normal cells. It is therefore of particular interest to find agents that have the ability to induce apoptotic activity specifically in cancer cells and with minimal side-effects. Interest in microbe-based approaches to cancer therapy has recently reemerged. The use of S. cerevisiae, the baker’s yeast, as a novel approach for the treatment of cancer is based on the concept that tumor cells undergo apoptosis upon phagocytosis of yeast. Our data shows that: 1) Heat killed yeast induces apoptosis in multiple human cancers [e.g. breast, tongue and colon] in vitro, 2) yeast has no toxicity against normal cells, 3) induction of apoptosis is yeast-specific, 4) apoptotic activity of yeast in cancer cells is enhanced by MGN-3/biobran, a biological response modifier, and importantly, 5) the phenomenon of yeast induced apoptosis was observed in vivo in athymic nude mice model. Electron microscopic studies of tissue samples obtained from in vivo yeast—treated tumors clearly show tumor cells phagocytize yeast and then undergo apoptosis. The molecular mechanism underlying this phenomenon is currently under investigtion in our laboratory. Further investigation into this area may present clinical implications for the treatment of cancer.

    Yeast and Inflammation

By Carolyn Dean, MD, ND. Total Health and Longevity Magazine Sept 2006.

Inflammation is a HOT topic, an Internet search on the word turns up an overwhelming 37.5 million hits. Journals of inflammation, inflammation research associations, and drug companies are all scrambling to find a drug to treat this scourge.

The cover story blazing through flickering flames on a February 2004 issue of TIME magazine notified the public about "The Secret Killer: The Surprising Link between Inflammation and Heart Attacks, Cancer, Alzheimer's and Other Diseases." The lead in to the story was just as dramatic: "The Fires Within - Inflammation is the body's first defense against infection, but when it goes awry, it can lead to heart attacks, colon cancer, Alzheimer's and a host of other diseases."

How can a simple infection lead to heart attacks and cancer? That's exactly where inflammation begins; it's the first response of your immune system to an infecting organism or foreign material that trips a switch leading to a "cascade" of biochemical events. Fluid floods the infected area along with a dozen different chemicals including white blood cells and histamine -all capable of producing the signs of inflammation -redness, swelling, and pain.

The extensive TIME article focused on the miraculous drugs that are in the pipeline to defeat this foe. It was obvious, however, that the authors and researchers they interviewed really didn't understand inflammation, otherwise they would know that synthetic drugs do not treat it. By their very nature as toxins that the body is designed to attack, drugs are a primary source of inflammation.

Also in 2004, there were countless headlines about the anti-inflammatory drug, Vioxx, the cause of an estimated 140,000 heart attacks. In fact, when properly studied, most anti-inflammatory drugs were found to have serious side effects, mostly involving the heart. So, along with the unveiling of inflammation we learned that the "cure" for it might be more deadly than the disease. In 2006, it appears that the only drugs that are being promoted to treat the inflammation associated with chronic diseases are the cholesterol-lowering statins. Yet, this is another family of drugs with a checkered history of serious side effects including severe muscle pain and muscle tissue breakdown, global amnesia, and liver damage.

In the TIME article there was no mention that obesity causes inflammation or that the levels of the inflammation marker, C-Reactive Protein (CRP), drop dramatically when overweight people lose as little as ten pounds. There was also no discussion about the inflammatory role played by the yeast, Candida albicans, a common inhabitant of our intestines that can grow out of control. In what appears to be a concerted effort to ignore yeast overgrowth in our population, conventional medicine has not informed practicing doctors of yeast's dangers.

    WHAT IS YEAST?
In brief, Candida albicans is a fungus living in our intestines that produces 180 chemical toxins capable of making you feel dizzy and fatigued, shutting down your thyroid, throwing your hormones off balance, and causing you to crave sugar and alcohol, and gain weight. It's associated with PMS, loss of libido, painful intercourse, infertility, numbness, tingling, MS, Crohn's, colitis, IBS, acne, Lupus, insomnia, drowsiness, white tongue, breath bad, body odor, sinusitis, bruising, sore throat, bronchitis, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, spots in front of eyes, and dozens more symptoms.

To the great detriment of the health of our society, this fungus is growing rampant in a large proportion of the population -mostly women. It's one of the many diseases of civilization - the culmination of the side effects of drug and food technology and the disservices of our stressful way of life. The miracle of antibiotics has its downside as an underlying cause of yeast overgrowth. The refining of sugar and wheat has its downside by creating a simple food source for yeast. The tremendous levels of stress hormones that flood our bodies daily, hourly, and every minute in our sped up world also make us prey to yeast.

Candidiasis (yeast overgrowth) has been around for decades, ever since we began to use antibiotics but neglected to replace the good bacteria that are destroyed along with the bad. Yeast itself, a cousin to molds, has grown in human bodies since Adam and Eve. Candida albicans is the main yeast in the human body; it lives there happily enough, kept in check by beneficial bacteria in the intestines. These bacteria make small amounts of vitamin K and B12 and help digest excess sugar that gets past the small intestine. A very special group of bacteria also make lactic acid, which protects the gut and vagina against yeast.

Candida is one of the 400 organisms that make their home in our mouth, digestive tract, vagina and on our skin. For the most part, yeast get along with their neighbors. When you begin taking antibiotics, however, the whole delicate balance is lost. Antibiotics don't discriminate, they wipe out most of the good along with the bad bacteria leaving yeast unharmed.

Quack sites blame everything on candida. And they have the "magic cure" for it. If it is so deadly and over 90% of the population has it in their bodies, how are we all even alive today?

"Do you feel tired? Worn out? You have candida! Take these pills four times a day and kill the yeast and feel better again! Only $45.99 plus shipping!"

Woman Beats DUI Rap With Claim Her Body Brews Alcohol

Drunken-driving charges against an upstate New York woman have been dismissed based on an unusual defense: Her body is a brewery.

The woman was arrested while driving with a blood-alcohol level more than four times the legal limit. She then discovered she has a rare condition called "auto-brewery syndrome," in which her digestive system converts ordinary food into alcohol, her lawyer Joseph Marusak said in interviews this week.

A town judge in the Buffalo suburb of Hamburg dismissed the drunken-driving charges this month after Marusak presented a doctor's research showing the woman had the previously undiagnosed condition in which high levels of yeast in her intestines fermented high-carbohydrate foods into alcohol.

The rare condition, also known as gut fermentation syndrome, was first documented in the 1970s in Japan, and both medical and legal experts in the U.S. say it is being raised more frequently in drunken-driving cases as it is becomes more known.

"At first glance, it seems like a get-out-of-jail-free card," said Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University. "But it's not that easy. Courts tend to be skeptical of such claims. You have to be able to document the syndrome through recognized testing."

The condition was first documented in the U.S. by Barbara Cordell of Panola College in Texas, who published a case study in 2013 of a 61-year-old man who had been experiencing episodes of debilitating drunkenness without drinking liquor.

Marusak contacted Cordell for help with his client who insisted she hadn't had more than three drinks in the six hours before she was pulled over for erratic driving Oct. 11, 2014. The woman was charged with driving while intoxicated when a Breathalyzer test showed her blood-alcohol content to be 0.33 percent.

Cordell referred Marusak to Dr. Anup Kanodia of Columbus, Ohio, who eventually diagnosed the woman with auto-brewery syndrome and prescribed a low-carbohydrate diet that brought the situation under control. She is currently free to drive without restrictions.

On the topic of curcumin, I believe that a standardized phytosome curcumin (e.g. Meriva) at a dose of 1000mg or higher daily will raise blood levels high enough to be detectable and effective systemically.

If Rand does not win the Republican nomination, he should buck the controlled two party system and run as an Independent for President in 2016 and give Americans a real option to vote for.

Turmeric is a Potent Inflammation and Cancer Fighter: How Much You Should Take and How Often

    By Deane Alban

Historically, spices are treasured for the unique flavors they bring to food and for their healing properties.

Most spices provide some health benefits.

But one spice that shines for its medicinal benefits is turmeric.

You may have seen turmeric in the news as a potential treatment for diseases as diverse as arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, psoriasis, and Alzheimer’s.

But does this spice live up to its press?

And can you get the benefits of turmeric from food alone or should you take a turmeric supplement?

Turmeric and curcumin are often used interchangeably. What’s the difference between them?

Here’s everything you need to know about the health benefits of turmeric.

Turmeric is a spice that comes from the root of Curcuma longa, a beautiful flowering tropical plant native to India.

Turmeric has been used for healing for thousands of years going back to Ayurveda, India’s 5,000-year-old natural healing system. (1)

Cooking residue found on pottery shards shows that people in parts of Asia cooked with turmeric 4,500 years ago. (2)

It is one of several spices used to make curry powder, an essential ingredient in south Asian cuisine.

It’s usually used dry, but the root can also be grated fresh like ginger.

This versatile spice was used traditionally to improve digestion, dissolve gallstones, relieve arthritis, and alleviate symptoms of allergies and colds. (3, 4)

It was applied externally for wounds and skin conditions.

It was also used as a beauty treatment. (5)

Soaps and creams containing turmeric are experiencing a surge in popularity today.

Turmeric paste is still applied to the skin of both the bride and groom in a ceremony before marriage in some parts of India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan to beautify skin and as a form of good luck.
The Relationship Between Turmeric and Curcumin

Many websites, even authoritative medical sites, incorrectly use the terms turmeric, curcumin, and even curry powder interchangeably.

This makes it hard to understand the information on turmeric.

    Let’s clear up any confusion.

Curry powder is a mix of many spices including the spice turmeric.

Turmeric contains hundreds of compounds, each with its own unique properties.

But of all the compounds in turmeric, curcumin is by far the most promising and is the most widely studied.

Curcumin is not unique to turmeric, it is also found in ginger, another spice with a long history of medicinal use.

You can find many websites that make unrealistic claims about turmeric.

A few natural health websites boldly state that turmeric has been proven beneficial for over 600 ailments.

But the vast majority of studies were done on the isolated compound curcumin, not turmeric.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health says this about turmeric studies: “… there is little reliable evidence to support the use of turmeric for any health condition because few clinical trials have been conducted.” (6)

    Why would this be?

It’s easier to study a compound like curcumin which can be isolated and standardized and acts more drug-like than spice-like.

But the overriding reason may be that there is little monetary incentive to research a spice that’s already found in millions of kitchens worldwide unless it can be transformed into a substance that can be patented.

9 Turmeric Benefits You Need to Know: The Power of Kitchen Gold (Plus Recipes!)

    by Emily Monaco

If you’ve only ever used turmeric as an occasional curry spice, your life’s about to change. Even alone, bright yellow turmeric has a complex, buttery, peppery aroma that’s simply irresistible. And what’s more, there are nearly innumerable health benefits of turmeric to take advantage of when you add this spice to your diet. Turmeric benefits make this deeply-hued spice as valuable as gold in the kitchen; we’ll show you how to use it.

While you’ll often find turmeric on spice racks in powder form, turmeric is actually a member of the ginger family. When purchased fresh, in root form, it resembles ginger, with its nobby beige skin; the golden flesh is hidden until you cut into it.

The nutritional profile of turmeric is vast, according to neuropathic doctor Gabrielle Francis. “It is a potent antioxidant and has bioflavonoids, vitamin c, vitamin a, and beta carotene and can be protective against cancer cells,” she says.

Just take a look at these stats for a mere teaspoon (2 grams) of turmeric:

    .2 mg manganese (8% DV)
    .8 mg iron (5% DV)
    .5 mg vitamin C (1% DV)
    3.9 mg magnesium (1% DV)
    5.4 mg phosphorous (1% DV)
    50.5 mg potassium (1% DV)
    .1 mg zinc (1% DV)

Thanks to these nutrients, and more, the benefits of turmeric are wow-worthy.

the root can also be peeled and thrown in the turbo blender for green (ok.. sometimes orange or yellow) juices
    and
all yeasts are not equal - most plants have some variety of yeast on them. Grain and potato yeasts get used to make beer and other fun libations. Fruit yeasts lean more toward the bread baking end of things. No clue on what variety candida is.
Any thoughts on products that use yeast to be created until it's virtually all gone?
Or.. what about adding tumeric to a ferment?

I used to bake bread a lot.. never measured anything either. I don't anymore - avoiding wheat.. failed at bread without wheat
Disclaimer: any post made after midnight and before 8AM is made before the coffee dip stick has come up to optomim level - expect some level of silliness,

The problems we face today exist because the people who work for a living are out numbered by those who vote for a living !!!!!!!

Wow! Look at those huge amounts! Only 20 teaspoons will give you your daily Iron. Only 100 teaspoons (almost half a pound) can give you your daily potassium.

This entire jar is 33 teaspoons. Three of these a day for potassium. Two thirds of it for your iron. Yum!
