Rand Paul ‘Appalled’ The NSA Spied On Members Of Congress

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said he is “appalled” the National Security Agency spied on members of Congress while attempting to surveil Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other close U.S allies.

Appearing on Fox News’s “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday, Paul called for “more targeted surveillance” as well as “more controls over the NSA and more controls on our intelligence agencies.”

Responding to The Wall Street Journal article which said that the NSA’s eavesdropping of Israeli officials also gathered the conversations with U.S. lawmakers and American-Jewish groups, Paul argued, “I’m appalled by it and this is exactly why we need more NSA reform.”

“The debate in Washington right now is unfortunately been going the other way since the San Bernardino shooting. Everybody’s saying ‘Oh, we need more surveillance of Americans.’ In reality what we need is more targeted surveillance,” Paul suggested

Same rules for all right Rand....

Who, specifically, is going to control this leviathan of a surveillance apparatus?

And how exactly will they be punished when they fail?

No one. And they won't be.

I suspect they only spy on those they don't like.

He should be appalled that they spy on all American citizens. Honestly, most members of Congress should be investigated.

He's said that before. I'm guessing he's saying he's appalled by this new information in the interest of consistency, and I'm OK with that.

I suspect they're spying on everyone in Congress in order to gather blackmail, just in case someone decides to go off the reservation.

For instance, why do you think Linzi looks so nervous all the time?

...if he doesn't tow the line, maybe somebody'll release some audio from the Dulles airport men's room.

Well, he isn't a part of the current administration. If he were, they probably wouldn't bother with him.

U.S. Spy Net on Israel Snares Congress
NSA’s targeting of Israeli leaders swept up the content of private conversations with U.S. lawmakers
    http://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-spy-...ess-1451425210
wary of a paper trail stemming from a request, the White House let the NSA decide what to share and what to withhold, officials said.
“We didn’t say, ‘Do it,’ ” a senior U.S. official said. “We didn’t say, ‘Don’t do it.’ ”
Stepped-up NSA eavesdropping revealed to the White House how Mr. Netanyahu and his advisers had leaked details of
    the U.S.-Iran negotiations—learned through Israeli spying operations—to undermine the talks;
coordinated talking points with Jewish-American groups against the deal; and asked undecided lawmakers what it would take to win their votes,
according to current and former officials familiar with the intercepts.

The NSA should be spying on Israel, and heavily at that, considering they conduct the most espionage against us out of any other country according to the State Dept. Members of Congress though? Really? Do the NSA and CIA run this country? Always trying to intimidate lawmakers . . .

I'm appalled, absolutely appalled, that members of Congress were allowed to know that NSA was spying on them

Rand sure as hell better pump up this story for all its worth. There's hasn't been much news in Rand's favor for the last few months. And he should go over the top with the rhetoric. "King Obama has been keeping tabs on Congress. The unelected spies could be blackmailing your representatives. And our close ally Israel is treated like North Korea."

He's been doing some more pro-bono eye surgeries in Kentucky again, that's why he hasn't been making as many news appearances.

P.S. - To all the cry-babies on here who are whining because Paul "allegedly" only says something when congress is getting spied on, get over to Rand's twitter page, he's been hammering Rubio for only caring about spying when it happens to him rather than everyone else in the country. Seriously, research first, then mouth off about how much smarter you think you are than Rand.

I know, but when someone points a camera at him and hold a mic in front of him, he needs to take the bully pulpit to make the message to all Americans. I'm not on Twitter, and I stay off social media as much as possible.

Congress did this to themselves. They created the monster and now it's coming after them.

They weren't spying on congress, or at least that's not what I have read.

They were spying on Israel and ended up spying on members of congress that were talking to Israeli leaders.

Frankly of all the shady nsa $#@!, I want them to spy on other countries, just because congress is so deep in israels ass isn't the nsa or Obamas fault.

exactly why we need more NSA reform.
I was unaware there was any true "reform" at all.

    LOL @ "reform".

It's milquetoast statements like that, that have caused his campaign to sputter and fail.

The National Socialists do not want any "reform" at all, they want more power granted to the government spies.

And those few of us with our heads still screwed on straight, want no "reform" at all, rather, want them ripped out by the roots and the earth salted where they stood and jail for the operators.

Bland, "middle of the road" talk of reform ignites and inspires nobody.

Im not sure we can even have diplomatic ties with something we dont recognize as a country. But yes any foreign influence in our congress is awful.
