Can Rand win GOP base without fiercely attacking Obama?

Obama's approval among GOP voters is at 9%, lowest in history for any democratic POTUS. Do others understand what is Rand's strategy for winning GOP base since he is running on GOP ticket?
Even "crazy" birther candidates like Trump, Carson managed to get traction with the base by attacking Obama without much coherence.
Why Rand doesn't attack Obama's policies as fiercely as Trump attacks Obama's birth certificate or Hillary's toilet breaks?
What is behind hesitation there if goal is to win GOP primaries?

He is attacking Obama on gun-control and just savaged Hillary's toilet breaks in his Festivus tweets. The problem isn't him not attacking Obama enough, the problem is the media constantly focusing more on what everyone else says about them. Trump is getting a ridiculous amount of free media, which is 100% why he is so far ahead.

If Rand did that, he would most likely lump the candidates together with Obama, like he does Marco Rubio with Hillary Clinton. But yes, he does eventually need to throw some jabs at Obama proper. We may all think it is silly, but Christie calling Obama a "feckless weakling" stuck with voters.

While we're on the subject, I'm shocked that other candidates haven't come out and used this against Rand like Lawrence predicted.

Maybe he should focus on going after Obama!

Because it makes much more sense to attack fellow gop candidates that voters love, like Trump. Duh. That's the winning platform Rand has been running on since the first debate.

Worse his attacks on Trump were stupid. "Trump's a bully. Trump might run third party (like his dad did)." He should have attacked Trump on being wishy washing on gun control, supporting bailouts and supporting an expanded definition of imminent domain.

Ugh. What a "tragedy" indeed, Rand. Not very wise of him to say that.

Maybe they didn't see it. But now that you've posted this reminder, I'm sure someone will eventually use it against him if they feel such a need.

Rand attacking Trump is waste of focus, time and politically counter-productive. In substance, there may not be any other GOP candidate closer to Rand's policy views than Trump even if he is still very far.

    Trump tells Bush: 'You're fired'

    July 13, 2004 - 11:22AM

    Donald Trump.

Donald Trump to President Bush: You're fired!

The billionaire host of NBC's The Apprentice has weighed in on the Bush administration's decision to invade Iraq, terming it a "brutal mistake" that would "make it very hard for Bush to get re-elected".

Trump's numerous development projects have been crimped by the war.

"You can't get concrete. You can't get steel. You can't get anything in this country," he said.
"You know where all our steel's going? It's going to Iraq, because we're rebuilding Iraq."
Trump made the comments last night at the NBC-owned Universal Studios amusement park, where the network threw a party for television critics and the stars of its new and returning series.
The Apprentice became NBC's biggest hit last season, with Trump emerging as an even bigger celebrity than he had been.
"Look, the war is a disaster. The war should not have been entered into," he told The Dallas Morning News while his fiancee, Melania Knauss, looked on.

"To lose all of those thousands and thousands of people, on our side and their side. I mean, you have Iraqi kids, not only our soldiers, walking around with no legs, no arms, no faces. All for no reason. It is a disgrace."

The Bush campaign declined to comment but noted that the president in a speech today had forcefully defended his decision to go to war.

Dec 13, 2015 - She's killed hundreds of thousands of people with her stupidity."

There will be at least 10 points jump in Rand's support among GOP voters if he makes all following statements within 2 weeks period in a debate, on national TV or on Twitter.
    Results guaranteed.

1- "Barack Hussain Obama is a puppet of war lobbies that instigated mideast destabilization and civil wars blood baths from Syria to Libya to Iraq".

2- "Morally Bankrupt democrats call Bush war criminal but not Obama".

3- "This is a very incompetent President. While national debt piled up, mideast slipped into bloodbath of Jihadists and Talibans increased their gains, Barack Hussein Obama last year spent more time playing golf than Tiger Woods".

4- "Under Obama, Black people have lost ground in every single leading economic category."

5- "Majority of Americans see this Nobel Peace Prize winner dronegangsta President as dishonest and untrustworthy".

Quoting ACLU in 2008 is an absolutely non-issue, ACLU is better than GOP on some issues like Civil Liberties. Trump is leading the GOP race by a mile because of his current rhetoric despite having parised Hillary in past and having donated to libs/democrats.

Looks like the answer is clear, in current atmosphere it was simply not possible for any GOP candidate to win a GOP primary unless primary target of his/her attacks was Obama.

Strategic mistake on part of Rand and those who advised him to become the "anti Trump" candidate so early on in debates.

“I don’t think that there will be any curtailing of Donald Trump as president,” he said. "He controls the media, he controls the sentiment [and] he controls everybody. He’s the one who will resort to executive orders more so than [President] Obama ever used them." - Ron Paul
