Default Donald Trump: Make Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines 'co-winners'

    http://money.cnn.com/2015/12/21/medi...-donald-trump/

Donald Trump, who sold his stake in the Miss Universe pageant earlier this year, thinks Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines should be named "co-winners" in light of Sunday night's crowning mistake.
Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, was briefly named the winner before the host Steve Harvey corrected himself and said the real winner was Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
On NBC's "Today" show Monday morning, Matt Lauer asked Trump what his solution would have been.
"I'll tell you what I think I'd do. I think I'd make 'em a co-winner. It'd be very cool," Trump said.
"I would recommend that they go have a beautiful ceremony, which is good for the brand and good for Miss Universe, and do a co-winner," he added.
Trump also suggested, via his Twitter feed, that Harvey's screw-up wouldn't have happened if he was still involved.
"Very sad what happened last night at the Miss Universe Pageant," he tweeted. "I sold it 6 months ago for a record price. This would never have happened!"

Trump actually sold the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants three months ago.
It was an awkward moment for the businessman because a campaign controversy had imperiled the pageant organization.
The pageants were co-owned by Trump and NBCUniversal. But NBC broke off its ties with Trump in June amid widespread criticism of the candidate's comments about Mexican immigrants. The network decided not to televise the Miss USA pageant in July.
Trump indicated that he would take legal action against the network, but the dispute was resolved in September when he purchased NBC's half of the pageant organization.
Then he promptly sold it to the giant talent agency WME/IMG.
"My friend, @AriEmanuel of @IMG, bought the Miss Universe pageants from me and they are on tonight on #Fox! Tune in!" he tweeted on Sunday night before the snafu.
Trump said on "Today" that the new owners are "tremendous people" and that Harvey is a "great guy."
It was a "terrible error," he said, but "things happen. It's live television."

And yet millions of people who never would have even known miss universe was even happening yesterday, are now talking about it. A win for the network if you ask me.

I've always said that it's really, really, really stupid, the way they announce the winner. When there are 2 left, they announce the name of the loser first (first runner up) instead of just announcing the name of the winner. I'm surprised this hasn't happened before.

    Its a political win.

This gives them the perfect excuse to finally change the practice. Next year, the host can just say "based on the mistake of last year, we are only going to announce the winner. And the winner is..."

That's what they did this year. Had you watched the show you would know. SilentBull is confused.

That's not how it was done. Please do not spread misinformation.

Are you this ignorant or do you just have a problem with reading comprehension? The way it has ALWAYS been announced is that they announce who the first runner up is first, and then right after say who the winner is. Harvey didn't do this. That's my point. He got confused. That is why Harvey said he was sorry because it was the first runner up that was Colombia, not the winner.

NORMAL ANNOUNCEMENT: "The first runner up is... Colombia!" (meaning the winner is the other one)
HOW HARVEY DID IT: "The winner is...Colombia"

My point is that they shouldn't be announcing it this way. They should just say who the winner is, and forget about announcing who the first runner up is. We know who the first runner up is. It's the loser of the two. That shouldn't be what they announce.

Can you point to me where the misinformation is? And thanks for the neg rep. You should educate yourself before handing those out. Or learn to read.

Dude, none of what you are saying is true. Also what's up with personal attacks? Here is the 2014 final announcement @1:00:30 - they did not announce the first runner up and went for the winner instead, just like this year:

    Do you want to apologize?

So they didn't announce it that way last year. Check out the below video from 2003 (I'm still looking for other examples).

I used to watch these every year, although it's been a few years since I have. They used to always announce the winner like they did in 2003. It's possible they did make this permanent change since I stopped watching, but I wasn't wrong, as this was standard practice. For you to neg rep me was completely uncalled for. So, no I won't apologize. This was how they did it. I'm glad they changed it. I had been saying this for a long time when I used to watch these. This may have been the reason why Harvey was confused?

Are you going to apologize for saying that none of what I'm saying is true? And for the neg rep?

EDIT: Check out post #15 below for several more examples, from 2010 all the way back to 2003.

I always thought that when you were delivering the prize allocation, it was third runner-up, then second runner-up and then first runner-up.

Yup, it was like that for a long time. They may have changed this in recent years. In 2014 and 2013 it looks like they announced the winner instead. I'm trying to find videos of 2012 and 2011.

The card still shows it in this order (like it used to be announced)

It's possible that it is still meant to be announced this way, but the hosts sometimes decide to announce it their own way. I think Steve Harvey got confused by this.

It has been standard practice in this pageant to announce the first runner up first instead of announcing the winner. The evidence is below. It looks like ever since 2011, they've been announcing the winner first, which is how I think it should be done.

What do posts 2-23 have to do with Donald Trump wanting to all of a sudden change rules and take what one person has earned and share it with someone else?

This is such a sham pageant anyway, everyone knows USA should have won.

They just gave it to Columbia/Phillipine to make it "look" like USA isn't always the best. Such horse $#@!.
