Reason doesn't seem to be on board with this ad at all and neither do all their commentors. I, OTOH, think the ad is great.
I was born in a welfare state/Ruled by bureaucracy/Controlled by civil servants/And people dressed in grey/Got no privacy, got no liberty/Cos the twentieth century people took it all away from me - Ray Davies
When I first saw the title I thought it might be referring to the campaign learning from mistakes..
Hofstadter's Law: It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law. -Douglas Hofstadter

I don't like the fear mongering either, but it's the voter base he's trying to get votes from.
Ron ran an immigration ad in 2008.

What is irrational about it?
Rand's plan basically amounts to a stronger vetting process for immigrants. Given the fact that the government is handing hour welfare to everyone who comes to America, without doing a good job of making sure that we aren't funding our own attackers, I think this is entirely fair.
The opt-out ads on many youtubes with [skip ad] button within 5 secs can run a minute and a half
Radio ads as well are fiscally conservative and maybe worth their buck.
Some copyright use licensing may depend on how much airtime the ad spot gets
.
I like it othrr than it doesnt mention Rand Paul until nearly 3/4 of the way through.
This ad was made for Rand to have something to go on the network shows to talk about how he is different from Cruz and Rubio.
They all know its not going to get the hardcore fanatic Cruz supporters to see through immediately, its not meant for the online crowd, its meant for Rand to go on TV and talk to the general GOP base and hopefully get his points to the voters who will go out on caucus day.
Everyone needs to just phone bank and chill.

It's too long and it's not an question that's going to gain Rand a lot of traction with voters considering he can be hit back with his own views on immigration.
A campaign without a theme is going to produce ads like this.

A fear that is irrational (not proportional to risk, relative to other day-to-day risks) shouldn't be used in a sophistic way to drum up support. Instead, a real leader would try to talk them off the bandwagon headed over a cliff. You are at more risk of death from your bathtub than from terrorists. Where is Rand spreading this uncomfortable Truth (like his dad did) on this issue? And before you speak of him trying to win, unlike his dad, explain why his poll numbers and donations are lower than his dad's at this same comparable point then. This is both unethical AND pragmatically a failure.
This guy will deserve the loss he's handed, unlike his dad.
There are 14 candidates, and the other 13 all want to send ground troops to Iraq and Syria, along with around 60% of the GOP who actually vote. If you try to compare previous cycles to this one, you will be disappointed every time. You are in the minority here, for every 1 of you who gripe about this video, there were 10 more griping that he needed to put out a video like this.
Let me be clear...
There is not one candidate who has run for president in my lifetime who can say they fully share my commitment to liberty, Austrian economics, small government, and following the Constitution, than my son, Rand Paul.
That's why I have wholeheartedly endorsed him.

Can't help it...in spite of its flaws (newsletter reference), this is so funny and I couldn't find it posted already. Mods, feel free to delete. By the way, is the guy doing the filibuster sequence the same one in "We have a dinosaur"? Enjoy.

If you consider paleocon "liberty", then sure...lol. I'm sure so many people have converted to libertarian because of Rand. Oh wait, he says he isn't libertarian, used snarky language about us and marijuana legalization before, and he is drawing in less and less libertarian voters. I think that qualifies as watering down the liberty movement. He isn't doing what his dad did, which expanded the liberty movement. Get over that.
Truth.
Also, when Ron ran, he was the only one on stage preaching non-intervention. Now the field is split with the top 2-3 candidates saying we shouldn't have gone into Iraq and that intervention has been a mistake.
We now have Cruz talking about auditing the Fed. And several candidates are talking about abolishing the IRS.
The best parts of libertarianism have gone mainstream.
Non-violence is the creed of those that maintain a monopoly on force.
