Finland plans to give every citizen a basic income of 800 euros a month

This will be interesting to observe. It sounds like their intention is to tackle unemployment by giving the basic assistance of 800 euros to people in order to encourage those unemployed to take low paying jobs, but yet be able to live of those wages.

The Finnish government is currently drawing up plans to introduce a national basic income. A final proposal won’t be presented until November 2016, but if all goes to schedule, Finland will scrap all existing benefits and instead hand out 800 euros per month—to everyone.

It may sound counter-intuitive, but the proposal is meant to tackle unemployment. Finland’s unemployment rate rose to 11.8% in May (though it was back down to 8.7% in October) and a basic income would allow people to take on low-paying jobs without personal cost. At the moment, a temporary job results in lower welfare benefits, which can lead to an overall drop in income.

Finland is a quasi dictatorship. They price infraction tickets based on income, not the infraction itself.

I know because a hockey player from my favorite team got 2 speeding tickets in Finland, both were about 25 mph over in a 60 (highway) and each ticket was around 30, 000$ USD. He was out about 62k USD for 2 speeding tickets that would normally put you in the hole 500-800$.

over 60K USD for a moving violation, completely sober and no where near max penalty infractions.

I think this is a much better solution than encouraging the masses to feign neediness for vouchers.

'We endorse the idea of voluntarism; self-responsibility: Family, friends, and churches to solve problems, rather than saying that some monolithic government is going to make you take care of yourself and be a better person. It's a preposterous notion: It never worked, it never will. The government can't make you a better person; it can't make you follow good habits.' - Ron Paul 1988

Theyve been in a depression for a while - their GDP is still 6% below what it used to be. QE didn't work so they'll try helicopter money in a last desperate move.
