Banks' ally in Congress meets with area farmers

One of the most conservative members of Congress campaigned Thursday for a Republican candidate for the U.S. House seat representing northeast Indiana.

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., said he and state Sen. Jim Banks of Columbia City became acquainted partly through their support for the “food freedom movement,” which seeks to let farmers sell directly to consumers, restaurants and grocery stores.

“I don’t need somebody who agrees with me 100 percent of the time or even 80 percent of the time, but we need people with a spine” in Congress, Massie said about Banks.
