Weir: Read King running for Crownover’s seat

King, who lost to Crownover in 2014, managed to garner about 45 percent of the vote against the 16-year incumbent. Read says he would have voted against House Bill 40, which recently gave the state of Texas exclusive jurisdiction to regulate oil and gas operations, taking that authority away from local communities. “I was against the Denton fracking ban because I felt it went too far, but, I think the state also went too far by passing a law that is overly strict.”

Read is a sixth generation Texan who was born in Houston in 1969. He was raised in the San Antonio and Houston areas through high school, then attended Texas A&M where he met his wife, Laura, in 1990. They moved to North Texas after graduation and have lived in Denton County since 1998. They have been married 23 years and have six children, ages 3 to 15. As a native Texan with roots that go back to the early days of the Republic, Read say he is fighting “for a return to the days when government involvement in our lives was not a daily concern.” He firmly believes that all political power is inherent in the people, and all free governments are founded on the authority of the people, and instituted for their benefit.

Read King voted in his first Republican Primary in 1988 and attended his first precinct convention that night. In 2007, he recognized the need to be active in the political world again, this time for the sake of his own children and their future. He has been a delegate to every Texas State Republican Convention since and was a delegate to the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa. He has served as a Precinct Chair in the Denton County Republican Party and has attended many Texas State Republican Executive Committee meetings and even several Republican National Committee meetings. Throughout those years Read has tirelessly fought to restore and maintain a bottom-up approach to government, both within the Republican Party and in all levels of public government.

The former public school science teacher believes that government should not interfere in the parent-child relationship. The conservative-Republican candidate, a strong advocate of the rule of law, says “the only good law is one that applies to everyone equally without favoring or excluding certain groups.” He’s an enthusiastic pro-life supporter, defender of the Second Amendment’s Right to bear arms, and firmly believes in the sanctity of marriage and the family unit.

The 15 year resident of Denton County says he has seen the growth of the region during those years and feels certain that free market principles produce the best opportunities for further growth. During a recent interview at my home office, Read said he stands dedicated to the preservation of a republican form of government. Whether at home in District 64 or in Austin, he said he “will work to represent his constituents, not special interests, paid lobbyists, or others who seek to grow government for their own benefit.”

In the short video below, Read talks about his career, his reasons for running for political office, and how he intends to campaign for the position. More info on Read King can be found at: www.readking.net
