LA - Cops unload on unarmed man attempting to "flee" in car, killing 6 y/o boy

    Poor little guy.

    http://www.wlox.com/story/30434913/c...police-pursuit

"It's still under investigation, but all indications are that the shots came from outside the vehicle," Mayeux said.

"Jeremy was a special gift from God. He was always smiling always happy. He was diagnosed with autism when he was 2. He loved everyone he met and they loved him. As far as what caused his death, the only thing I have been told is he died from gun shot wounds. He didn't deserve what happened. He wouldn't hurt a fly," said Jeremy's grandmother Samantha Few in a statement to WAFB.
    [...]
The Associated Press reported Mayeux identified the driver of the vehicle as Chris Few. Mayeux said Few fled from city marshals trying to serve a warrant, the report added. According to the AP, the coroner said Few reached a dead end and was backing into the marshals when they fired. Mayeux reportedly also said Mardis was "caught in the line of fire."

Moreau also said the Alexandria field office of Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations responded to the scene to investigate at the request of the Marksville Police Department.

    The investigation is ongoing.

Marksville, LA — A horrifying and heartbreaking police shooting occurred Tuesday night in Louisiana leaving a father in critical condition and his 6-year-old son dead.

    According to The Advocate,

The boy, Jeremy David Mardis, of Effie, was killed by multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Avoyelles Parish Coroner L.J. Mayeaux said Wednesday. The boy was a student at Lafargue Elementary in Effie.

The shooting on Martin Luther King Drive in Marksville happened at the end of a pursuit and involved multiple city marshals from Ward 2, Louisiana State Police spokesman Trooper Daniel “Scott” Moreau said.
    https://reason.com/blog/2015/11/04/l...year-old-at-en

Authorities could decide to charge Few for the killing of the boy, even though they believe all the shots were fired by city marshals, because of a legal theory that places the liability for damage and death caused by police officers during a pursuit or other police action on the target of that action.

According to the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IAC), about half of police departments around the country require a pursuit to end when police have identified the suspect, while a fifth of departments only permit pursuits of felony offenders. Most departments also require permission and oversight of a chase by a supervisor not on scene. The IACP has also reportedly found no evidence that such “limited-pursuit” policies cause more people to flee police.

Whether or not the killing of six-year-old Jeremy David Mardis will attract national coverage, the issue of pursuit policy in Marskville and in Louisiana are likely to be a focus of some of the coverage the killing and its aftermath does get.
Based on the idea of natural rights, government secures those rights to the individual by strictly negative intervention, making justice costless and easy of access; and beyond that it does not go. The State, on the other hand, both in its genesis and by its primary intention, is purely anti-social. It is not based on the idea of natural rights, but on the idea that the individual has no rights except those that the State may provisionally grant him. It has always made justice costly and difficult of access, and has invariably held itself above justice and common morality whenever it could advantage itself by so doing.

    UPDATE: Grandmother speaks about shooting

UPDATE: The mother of the man officers were chasing last night when a 6-year-old was shot dead says she was at the scene for two hours before police would tell her anything,WBRZ in Baton Rouge reports.

Chris Few's mother, Samantha Few, worked at a store down the road from the shooting in Marksville. Few said she went down to the scene of the shooting last night after hearing there was a shooting.

Few said she knew that the car at the scene was her son's car and saw her grandson's body laying in the seat. Few said she stayed near the crime scene tape for two hours before she was told any information by police.

Few said that the coroner told her that her grandson was shot multiple times and that she did not know why police were chasing her son.

Chris Few underwent surgery Tuesday night for a gunshot wound to his head. According to Samantha Few, Chris was talking right before he went into surgery, but she was unsure whether he knew that his son was killed. To read the original story by WBRZ, click here.

ORIGINAL STORY: The autopsy of a 6-year-old killed in an officer-involved shooting last night in Marksville will be conducted this afternoon in Lafayette, according to the Avoyelles Parish Coroner's Office.

Dr. L.J. Mayeux, Avoyelles Parish Coroner, identified the child as Jeremy Mardis, 6, of Effie. Mardis died of multiple gunshot wounds, Mayeux said. The final details are pending the autopsy and the investigation, but Mayeux said the child was an unrestrained passenger in the front seat at the time of the shooting. He suffered a gunshot to the head, and multiple shots to his chest, Mayeux said.

Most of the shots seemed to come through the driver's side of the vehicle, he said.

Mayeux, who has been coroner for 29 years, said this was the third child he has had to deal with in the last few months.

"The adults I can handle all day long," Mayeux said. "But this you never get used to."

Mardis was a first-grader at Lafargue Elementary School in Effie.

The driver of the car, Chris Few, the boy’s father, was taken to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria where he’s listed in stable condition, Mayeaux said.

Our partners at The Advocate report that the shooting on Martin Luther King Drive in Marksville happened at the end of a pursuit and involved multiple city marshals from Ward 2, Louisiana State Police spokesman Trooper Daniel “Scott” Moreau said.

According to The Town Talk in Alexandria, the driver tried to run his car into a police vehicle.

KATC has reporters on the scene and en route. We will report additional information as it becomes available.

My prediction, the boy's father will be charged with murder, even though a cop pulled the trigger.

BREAKING: Police Shoot 6-yo Boy in the Head Multiple Times Killing Him

Police sources claim that the driver, Chris Few, was attempting to flee when they fired on him. According to the AP, the coroner said Few reached a dead end and was backing into the marshals when they fired. The coroner also reportedly said Mardis was “caught in the line of fire.”

School Superintendent Blaine Dauzat expressed his grief over the death of Mardis who attends Lafargue Elementary School. Dauzat is gathering grief counselors and sending them to the school, located in the Effie community, to assist students and staff during this time.

Of course, fleeing from the police with a child in the car is a terrible decision. However, as we have seen time and time again, police officers fire into vehicles, that do not pose a threat, killing the drivers.

In just the last few months, we’ve seen video footage of police officers killing drivers who posed no threat whatsoever.

Dashcam footage was released last week of police killing Zachary Hammond because his date sold a tiny bit of marijuana to an undercover cop.

The man was attempting to flee. What were the Officers supposed to do? Just let him get away?

If they had just let him get away.... he could have gotten away!! Can't have that.

Next time they should just use a shoulder fired rocket. That way they incinerate everyone in the car and they won't have to worry about pesky survivors to become witnesses.

    MARKSVILLE, LA (WAFB) -
Two days after 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis was accidentally shot and killed at the tail-end of a police pursuit, many are still confused about exactly what happened on Martin Luther King Drive in Marksville, LA.

During a 2 p.m. news conference on Thursday, Louisiana State Police Col. Mike Edmonson said no gun was found in the vehicle the Ward 2 City Marshal deputies were chasing that resulted in the death of a 6-year-old boy. The shooting happened Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015 around 9:30 p.m.

Officials say the child was shot five times during the shootout.

(It's not a shoot out if only one side has guns. p4p)

Dr. L.J. Mayeux, coroner of Avoyelles Parish, said the father of the victim, Chris Few, had warrants out for his arrest. Ward 2 City Marshal deputies reportedly spotted Few's vehicle on Washington Street and initiated a stop. Instead of pulling over, officials say Few led deputies on a chase through Marksville, finally turning down Martin Luther King Drive, which is a dead end street.

Parish investigators initially said marshals were chasing Chris Few because of an outstanding warrant. However, WAFB checked with the Clerk of Court, the District Attorney's Office, Marksville Police Department and City Court and we did not find any outstanding warrants. Col. Mike Edmonson says so far, their investigation shows the same.

"I am not aware of one but I have not been provided with anything that says otherwise," he said.

Mayeux added Few backed into the marshal's vehicle several times and would not get out and that is when the gunfire erupted. Officials initially stated there was an exchange of gunfire during the incident Tuesday night. As of Thursday afternoon, officials are now saying a gun was not found in Few's vehicle.

At last report, Few was listed in critical condition.

Col. Edmonson says there is also no evidence, at this time, that Few backed into the deputy's vehicle. Investigators are reviewing at least one piece of video that shows part of the gunfire. A source tells WAFB that video is from a police body camera one of the officers was wearing.

    From the article:

According to Col. Edmonson, officers involved in any officer-involved shooting are given a "day or two to rest and get sleep" before being interviewed for the investigation. As of 2:45 p.m. Thursday, the officers involved had not been interviewed. There is a question if the City Marshals had jurisdiction at the time of the shooting.
As I'm sure any Mundane who just blew away a six year old would have been given, poor darlings.

This nation is so $#@!ed up I can barely wrap my head around it anymore.

Once again I suggest the people of that community very quietly hunt the murderers and dispatch them without compunction or the least hesitation. Make sure the local cops know exactly what has happened to their fellows and why, along with the warning that any further misbehavior will be met with equal justice and resolve.

If we don't put an end to this, it will in fact never end, but rather only get worse.

It has just been announced by CNN news that the two officers who shot and killed six year old Jeremy Mardis, Officers Norris Greenhouse Jr. and Derrick Stafford, are being charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

Earlier today we reported on the incident, which happened on Tuesday. Officers pursuing Chris Few regarding a warrant fired into his vehicle, which also was occupied by the man’s six year old son. Both occupants were hit, and the child died from the injuries on the scene.

The two officers involved were initially cleared of wrongdoing in the incident, which happened in Marksville, Lousiana. Chris Few was not armed and it is not known why officers fired upon him, considering that he presented no immediate danger to officers or fellow citizens.

“Jeremy Mardis, 6 years old; he didn’t deserve to die like that,” Louisiana State Police Col. Michael Edmonson said of the incident which left the child with five bullets in his lifeless body.

His father is still in the hospital. It is not known whether the officers knew there was a child present when they tried to murder his father. There has been a lot of buzz and outrage regarding the killing which likely forced authorities into the rare position of charging their own with their crimes. What do you think, is the momentum for justice in police killings starting to catch up to cops, or is this just an incident to placate the public who are becoming fed up with the ever-increasing number of killings by law enforcement?

Cops Who Killed 6-yo Boy Lied About his Dad Having a Warrant & Gun – He Had Neither

Marksville, LA – On Tuesday, November 3rd, 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis was tragically gunned down after being unwittingly thrust into a police pursuit. Now, officials are acknowledging that there may have been no justification for the officers’ actions.

Initial reports claimed that Jeremy’s father, 25-year-old Chris Few, was being served a warrant by Ward 2 City Marshals. However, police now admit that Few was not only unarmed when officers opened fire, but may not have had a warrant at all.

During a press conference Thursday afternoon, Louisiana State Police Col. Mike Edmonson said:

“We have no evidence of any gun found in his car,” When asked about Few’s alleged warrant Col. Edmonson replied; “I am not aware of one but I have not been provided with anything that says otherwise.”

Upon being reached for comment regarding the existence of warrants for Mr. Few, the Clerk of Court for the City of Marksville stated they had “nothing” and that they had never had any warrants out on him, according to KATC TV.

Chris’ step-father, Morris German, has also been vocal in his disbelief of the original police account. He said that he strongly doubted his stepson was armed and that he could not believe he would flee authorities with his son in the vehicle.
