Disturbing Viral Video Seemingly Shows LA Officer Being Stalked Rattles Law Enforcement

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) – A disturbing video that seemingly shows an officer being stalked has the local law enforcement community on edge.

The footage, posted on social media, begins with a Los Angeles police officer getting out of his patrol car, followed by a shot of a handgun held by the person shooting the video. That individual was recording the video from inside a car parked behind the officer.

The video, which had gone viral, is enough for the wife of an L.A. police officer to think someone may be sending a threat. “It’s completely frightening, and I know that a lot of the wives are scared,” she said.

She is part of the LAPD Wives Association. Many of the members have seen the video, and so have many officers.

“They just want to do their job and yet all this hatred is coming at them. And it’s becoming more and more violent,” she said. “They are so scared that their husbands are not going to come home.”

CBS2/KCAL9 was told the video was posted on Instagram, and it has since been taken down. But many in law enforcement remain rattled.

“The hatred toward the officers isn’t going to accomplish anything. It’s just going to create a bigger divide.”

The LAPD said it is taking this matter seriously and has opened investigation.

Haven't seen the video but my first inclination is to think this is staged. These goons want everyone to feel they have the most dangerous job in the world (they don't) and they feel they are losing the "support of the people" so I wouldn't put it past one of them to stage this and put it on the interwebs to drum up sympathy for goons everywhere... (in fact I think it's more likely than not staged)

I can understand how they feel. When your job is all about screwing people out of their money and sometimes their life, you should be afraid.
The beast has gotten out of control. We reward it with money in the way of fines. Of course it's going to go out of it's way to find a way to collect more revenue.

Maybe the system needs to stop collecting money from people it's believes have broken the law. Perhaps that would cause it to lose incentive to screw with people.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)*– LAPD Chief Charlie Beck announced the arrest of a “secondary suspect” and the expected imminent surrender of a “primary” suspect Tuesday in the posting of a video on social media that was initially viewed as a threat to police.

Officers arrested the secondary suspect in Downey over the weekend, and served a warrant this morning at the residence of the primary suspect, who remains at large, Beck told the Police Commission this morning.

“Right now Robbery-Homicide Division is actively looking for him,” Beck said. “His attorney is in contact with Robbery-Homicide Division. We’re trying to negotiate that surrender at this point.”

He did not identify either suspect.

In a statement that was released after Beck’s announcement, the LAPD said detectives “identified the vehicle and three suspects who were inside filming.”

“The investigation revealed that the film was made by members of an early 1990s rap group no longer in fashion,” the police statement said. “The film was made and posted on social media to ignite a comeback by the rap group.”

On Thursday,*footage posted to social media*appeared to show an individual who recorded video from inside a car parked behind an LAPD cruiser and brandishing a handgun.

According to police, three suspects were inside the vehicle when the video was recorded.

They're still combing the statutes looking for something to hang on them. They have a disadvantage--LA isn't one of those towns where eating peanuts in church is illegal. But they'll find something.

I'm glad the criminals who made this video have been found. I certainly wouldn't want people like that, who use violence as intimidation methods, to walk our streets.
