A Georgia trooper involved in a highway crash that killed two teenage girls has been fired after an investigation found he was speeding before the wreck.
State Patrol Trooper Anthony Scott, 26, was given the boot Friday following the tragic deaths of 17-year-old Kylie Lindsey and 16-year-old Isabella Chinchilla last week.
The former U.S. Marine was driving 90 mph and wasn't responding to a work call Saturday when he plowed into the back of a Nissan Sentra carrying the girls and two of their male friends, authorities said.
"
He's crushed. He's devastated. He regrets the action he took that night," Georgia State Patrol spokesman Capt. Mark Perry told WSB-TV.
Police said the slain Douglassville's South Paulding High School girls were riding in the backseat of the sedan as it cruised about 65 mph on the 55 mph highway in Carroll County.
They pulled onto Highway 27 in front of the state trooper, who crashed into the back of the teen-packed sedan, police said.
Lindsey, who did not have her seatbelt on, was thrown from the car.
The girls were riding in the backseat when their car was hit.
The teenage boys in the front survived the crash and were recovering this week.
Scott, who joined the patrol force in 2011, walked away with minor injuries.
It's his third car crash involving "misjudged clearance," Perry said. He was disciplined for the first two collisions that didn't have to do with speed or reckless driving, Perry said.

The patrol spokesman urged law enforcement officers to make safe decisions behind the wheel.
"Do your job, be careful doing your job, but be aware that every action that we make affects not only us, but it affects the people around us," he said. "It affects our families, it affects other families."
Lindsey's heartbroken relatives were stunned by the findings of the investigation, they said in a statement issued to WSB-TV.
The family was "even more devastated with the news that this senseless accident and loss was preventable," they said.
It was unclear Saturday if Scott had been charged with a crime.
