The latest Pew poll shows that Jeb Bush has fallen to 4 percent in the Republican field. Donald Trump leads the field with 25 percent; Ben Carson is at 16 percent.

These polls are so outlandishly skewed it's not even funny. It's interesting to note that Rand is consistently polling higher than Kasich and Christie in a number of recent polls, and likewise apart from Carson, everybody else is so far behind and the "not sure/undecided" category is as high as Trump's numbers.

Jeb Bush is a lousy candidate, but the thing I find most interesting here is how ridiculously high the undecided area is. People are not only uninformed, they are actually admitting to it.

How much of that money have Jeb or those Super PACs actually spent so far?

What a cinderella story it will be when Jeb roars back from defeat in IA and NH to become the race leader.

And not a single vote will be cast to make him that leader.

Meh, Jeb is going to win the primary. It's already been decided. He has to get this low so he can "surge" when the media dumps a load of scandals on Trump right before voting starts.

The bookmakers still have Jebs as the favorite, that's telling.

    Start courting soft Bush donors.

That likely WAS the plan, similar to how McCain's carcass was picked up and carried across the finish line by the establishment in '08, or how Kerry suddenly revitalized his dead candidacy in '04 and surged past Dean. The bookmakers may well understand the elite's pattern, and are betting based on that track record. BUT, the factor of Trump having gone rogue (if true), may have scuttled the plan. In past cases of stalking horses, the early leader was only in the strong position for a few weeks, and thus only partially overshadowed the elite favorite, whose momentum, credibility, and media central focus remained intact.

That is how the establishment actually uses a controlled opposition candidate—their appeal is only supposed to be partial, and subordinate to building up the elite’s chosen one. Whereas Trump has been utterly destroying Bush’s poll numbers, AND credibility, AND momentum, AND media attention, while hogging all those factors for himself, for several months now. That total domination is the best indicator that things are simply not going according to establishment plan.

The only problem here is that the media is a key factor in the formula that you described, and they've largely been kowtowing to Trump's antics, apart from a couple of hotheads over on Fox News. Granted, Trump's rogue routine is probably a way for the Clintons to try and salvage Hillary's train-wreck of a candidacy, in which case the non-Fox News media will probably continue to give him tons of free media to keep his numbers up.

My problem in all of this is I'm not seeing much upside for Rand Paul having Trump literally hogging the entire spotlight. He's not just bringing down Bush, he's bringing down the entire GOP brand, which also hurts Paul since he's running on it. But regardless, we'll be dealing with this big-mouthed attention whore for a couple more months at least, or so it seems.
