Roth: I wanted to write a movie that was about modern activism. I see that a lot of people want to care and want to help, but in general I feel like people don’t really want to inconvenience their own lives. And I saw a lot of people just reacting to things on social media. These social justice warriors. ‘This is wrong, this is wrong, this is wrong.’ And they’re just tweeting and retweeting. They’re not actually doing anything. Or you see people get involved in a cause that they don’t really know a lot about and they go crazy about it. I wanted to make a movie about kids like that. I think there’s a lot great things, obviously, about activism people commit their lives to it. But I want to make a story about kids who don’t really know what they’re getting into. Get in way over their heads, it actually works. And then the irony is on their way home their plane crashes and the very people they saved think that they’re invaders, and just dart them and eat them. And make them the food supply of the village.

The 'Horror' genre is more or less dead. Most horror films today would better be described as "Nausea films".

Although it is mildly amusing that someone specifically set out to write a film about SJWs meeting an untimely end.

Used to be live theater. AKA, real.

I was just reading the other day about public executions (wondering what "broken on the wheel" meant turned into an hour long TMI moment) and apparently there was one form of execution that used flaying (ripping skin off bit by bit). I think it was some African tribe where if you got caught committing adultery you were tied to a post, flayed, and your flayed skin was force fed to your partner. Then vice-versa, all day every day, you were bandaged to prolong the execution.

So that thirst for blood that's in us is now satiated by Hollywood. Used to be public events. In fact the article was saying that our former governments would consider our executions as we currently do them as cowardly. Akin to murder. An execution is righteous! Don't you know! They should be shamed in their excruciating deaths!

Anyway, ghastly stuff.

That's not true at all. The torture porn subgenre is dying, while atmospheric films like The Babadook, It Follows and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night are taking its place. We might be seeing a new golden age of horror if the trend continues.

Guess that's about as close as Roth could get to real urban "youths" without activating real SJW's.
