Anonymous tip leads to massive illegal fireworks bust in California

FAIR OAKS, Calif. - An anonymous tip led fire investigators to one of the largest illegal fireworks busts ever in the Sacramento region, reports CBS Sacramento.

Thousands of pounds of consumer and professional grade fireworks were recovered by authorities in a Fair Oaks home.

Sacramento Metro Fire investigator Steve Johnson says the fireworks were being sold by John J.D. Guill, a convicted felon.

Neighbors tell CBS Sacramento that Guill never caused problems, but they're grateful to know the explosives have been removed.

"He was selling them in mass quantities," Johnson said. "Had we gotten there a couple days sooner, he said we would have had triple the amount of fireworks."

Metro Fire says anyone who may have bought illegal fireworks from Guill or elsewhere can surrender them at any fire station, no questions asked.
