I think Trump just shot himself in the foot

Trump tells TMZ, he'd create a "system of merit," saying people here illegally should have "a road to legal status" if they work hard and contribute to the country.
Trumps says it's unrealistic and inhumane to attempt to deport all of them.
So much for the points he scored with the "build a wall and make Mexico pay for it" plan. Those two quotes are political poison to border security voters.

He's probably just trying to make up for his Miss America Beauty Pageant not being shown on Mexican television because he said that Mexico is sending their least savory individuals up here. Of course, they gave him $2.5 million to show it, they are just waiving their right to put it on the air.

The paleocons are going to wet their pants on this one. The upstanding, America first closed border man is selling out for $2.5 million payment from Univision. I'd hate to see what he would do for $10 M?

Letting every schmuck in this country simply because they are a certain Politically Correct ethnicity was never a good idea. They send the Haitians back before they can even get to the beach. But the Mexicans..........they enrich the American experience! Complete and utter horse$#@! the manner which our handlers deceive the public into swallowing a lie.

A system of merit is actually not a bad idea.

Depends on if it's reported on. Somehow Ted Cruz can call for amnesty and increased immigration, and everyone still says that he is "tough on immigration".

This is a sterotype that every conservative is going to face and accept

    Then,

    1) Sorry about that comment

    2) Trump only cares about business first and only

He is more likly to drop out of the convention if business tank (even though he is polling first and second in the polls)

The fact that Trump is taken seriously at all, by anyone, just convinces me that we are living in Idiocracy.

Is it "political poison"? Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have said pretty much the exact same thing. I haven't heard anyone talk about deporting 11+ million illegal immigrants.

    But he isn't.

Haven't you heard the MSM falling all over themselves to convince us that they aren't taking him seriously, even as they try to lure us into talking about him by talking about him themselves, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week?

It's hilarious. They're doing a better job of tying themselves in knots with that than the Secretary of Defense did trying to say that waterboarding isn't torture.

Rand has said he wants a road to legal status and has made the false argument about deporting millions? All I've heard him say is that he wants strong border enforcement.

But that's neither here nor there. Trump just turned 180 degrees on his position of a week ago. That's the issue. Anyone who was supporting Trump over his hard stance on illegals will dump him after hearing this. You can't go from "build a big wall" to amnesty like that.

I'm not sure what you mean by "made the false argument about deporting millions?". But, yes, Ted and Rand have both supported building a wall, securing the borders first, and then dealing with immigration reforms and "pathways to citizenship" after the borders are secured. I haven't heard any candidate talk about deporting 11+ million illegals.

lol wishful thinking. The people slobbering after Trump do not care about issues, they just care that he's "talking tough." They will slowly ebb away from Trump over the next 3-4 months as his 'shiny' wears off, but it won't be a policy position that does it.

I think inadvertently Mexico sends its smartest people here, wouldn't you want to come here if you were Mexican?

If I were Mexican, I'd probably go south.

The US has large quantities of arable land. Mexico has large quantities of unskilled laborers. It just makes sense for the two assets to combine. This highly logical arrangement is what's driving the influx of immigrants

So no, they aren't sending their best. They are sending uneducated, unskilled laborers to work our fields. Whenever you have large groups of uneducated people, you have high crime rates, and the rest of it.

Everybody who is weak on illegal immigration says "we can't deport 11 million people!" Trump made that argument, as quoted in the OP. I call that a false argument, because who is saying you have to deport them? Cut off their benefits and ability to work here, and they will self-deport.

There were a lot of negative comments on FR over this article. All of his heat is behind his illegal immigration stance. Make him back up his "road to legal status" remark and that will disappear.
