I agree 100%, but think we are beginning the transition.

There is an edifying short story...The Country of the Blind, by HG Wells.
Throughout history, there has been a small percentage of people within a culture who challenged conventional thinking; Diogenes, Wilde, Voltaire, Nietzsche, etal. These free thinkers attracted others who wished to question the status quo, but for the most part, the vast majority of folks are most contented going with the herd. Challenging the security of accepted thought many times results in anger or violence...even here at RPF, questioning established worldviews leads to personal attacks.
For many people, these cherished views are almost dogmatic; unquestioned, hence irrational. This is easily recognized when the defense of these views relies on challenging the integrity of an imagined opposing view.
While you believe that Rand's acceptance of evolution appears to be a step towards rationalism, IMO, his stance is in defiance to the vast majority of his irrational constituency. Whether this bears fruit politically is unknown.

Same here. I was disappointed with his answer on evolution. He will lose votes over this and may end up costly in a crowded field. I had hopes that Ted Cruz will eventually bow out and endorse Paul.

Doubtful. Ted will endorse Mitch McConnell first.

There is only one thing worse than ignorance, and that is blind self-righteousness. Be careful how impressed you get with yourself, you may wind up in a position of power and end up concluding that Stalin and Mao were underachievers.

I certainly agree that God is none of that.

But I think we should spare the Sistine, myself. Keeps us humble to remind us where we came from. Kind of like bronzed baby shoes.

Despite my better judgment, I'm going to dignify this with a single response. The very reason why the Sistine should probably be destroyed is precisely because of the way you view it. That building is not a relic of an archaic past, but a symbol of innovative thought projected onto scripture under the guise of "enlightened thought", and it's about as creative and "rational" as Albert Einstein's views on the concept of god.

I see a lot of "blind self-righteousness" on the side of the evolutionists as well. I think it's time everyone takes a good look in the mirror...
