    Alabama Autistic Boys Kidnapped from Native American Mother and Abused in Foster Care

    Just three hours after a Native American mother got home from the hospital after a suspected heart attack, Child Protective Services (known in Alabama as DHR, Department of Human Resources) showed up on her doorstep and took away her two autistic sons. Now, her two sons are living in a foster home in Mobile, almost 250 miles away from their Sylacauga home, and their mother says that they are being abused in foster care and that their culture is being trampled by the social workers and foster parents.

    Dawn "Adaleha" ("my sunshine" in Cherokee) Cullins was appointed as the Alabama Ambassador for the Sokoki tribe, and in 2003, was recognized for "acts of compassion and kindness" and awarded the Civic Recognition Award in her community. She holds a degree in Paralegal studies and is very active in tribal activities. Her record is squeaky clean, without so much as a traffic ticket.

    DHR got involved with her family after one of her autistic sons wandered away from home and was reported to DHR by neighbors. The charges against her were "a messy house and dirty children."

    Today, Dawn claims her children are beaten in foster care, and are given multiple drugs to keep them compliant without her approval. She calls it "genocidal kidnapping," and reports that when she told DHR that her children were Native American, the social workers told her that she would never get her kids back. They were placed into a home where the parents are Black Muslims.

    Alabama had a law at one point where they were supposed to comply wrt the religious needs of the families they forced themselves upon but that law was phased out during the year we dealt with them. I fought them tooth and nail from the beginning on the basis of said law that was in force at the time and was ridiculed and ignored. The agency overseeing them on the issue praised Alabama for their willingness to be sensitive to the issue and thus no longer need enforcement of said law, thus why it fell away that year instead of being reinstated. Smh.

    The corruption in Alabama for the bonuses is outrageous. Being native and autistic likely increases the stakes in this case. The main people involved in our case all either quit, were fired, or went into early retirement by the time we were done but were replaced by a new crop of folks just as vile and corrupt. Within days of us finally getting dd out of the system there wasn't a single person in the agency involved directly with our case left but the agency sure saw fit to try and stir crap when foster family stole daughter's belongings and we asked for what could be done irt to said items. They are a nasty, vindictive group of self absorbed sociopaths there.

    Go Forward With Courage

    When you are in doubt, be still, and wait;
    when doubt no longer exists for you, then go forward with courage.
    So long as mists envelop you, be still;
    be still until the sunlight pours through and dispels the mists
    -- as it surely will.
    Then act with courage.

    I don't know why these Native American groups don't step in more on these child kidnappings. There is actually a federal law in place for them to place children within their culture, but outside of South Dakota (where it is especially bad - over 50% of the State budget coming through child placements), they don't seem to get involved when it is a medical kidnap issue. They threw Isaiah Rider under the bus.

    The mother in this story is supposedly suing based on the federal law (Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978).

    Again though, the solution is relatively simple. Just remove ALL the federal funding.

    This one is good, because a former Native American CPS worker speaks out about leaving social services due to corruption, and then they came and took his kids away:
