I think we need an official thread for discussion of Rand Paul's new book.

Senator Rand Paul, leading national politician and 2016 Presidential candidate, presents his vision for America.

In his four years since joining the Senate, Rand Paul has risen to the forefront of the national discussion. He's being called "the most interesting man in politics" by TIME Magazine. When Senator Paul believes in an issue he reaches across the aisle to collaborate with his colleagues. He's worked with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand on an anti-war bill, a financial assistance for childcare bill, and a protection for women in the military bill. He's also working with Senator Cory Booker to reform the nation's criminal justice system. Rand Paul's new book -- his third -- comes out next week. "Taking a Stand: Moving Beyond Partisan Politics" is in many ways a book-length version of his campaign trail stump speech, including a call for an end to NSA spying -- "We are becoming with George Orwell once feared," he writes -- and a claim that there is a "worldwide war on Christianity." He writes an entire chapter about Libya, dubbing the country a "Jihadist's wonderland" and the conflict "Hillary's War" -- and citing questionable information, underscoring the difficulty Republicans have had dealing with the Benghazi issue.

2016 Prospect Rand Paul in New Book: GOP Willing to Change

WASHINGTON — Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul reaches out in his most direct way yet to African-Americans in a new book that highlights his libertarian policies on government surveillance, the economy and criminal justice reform.

"My party has let the bond it once enjoyed with minorities fray to the point that it is near beyond repair," the Kentucky senator writes in "Taking a Stand: Moving Beyond Partisan Politics to Unite America," set to be released later this month. He continued, "My Republican Party, the Republican Party I hope to lead to the White House, is willing to change."

The new book, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press, comes as Paul plays a starring role in the debate over government surveillance. He spent hours on the Senate floor Wednesday protesting the planned extension of the Patriot Act, which includes a provision allowing the National Security Agency to collect bulk records of phone calls made by Americans.

Many Republicans support the surveillance program, including Arizona Sen. John McCain, whose description of Paul as a "wacko bird" is featured prominently on the book's back cover.

In the book, Paul writes that such surveillance programs allowed the government to spy on prominent civil rights leaders in the past, most notably Martin Luther King Jr. He said he raised such concerns during a private meeting last February with then-Attorney General Eric Holder, the first African-American to hold that office.

I went to Costco today, and Rand's book was on sale and prominently displayed!

Price was about 2 bucks less than what I paid at Amazon, so if you're a Costco member that's the way to go; plus you'll have it in your trembling-with-anticipation hands right away, without waiting.

listening to the audio edition. excellent book, very worthwhile. I do have one criticism : except for the first chapter someone else reads it. Huckabee and Santorum did their entire books.
