Thumbs down Obama: Sen. Warren is 'absolutely wrong' about Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)

“She’s absolutely wrong,” Barack Obama said, before I could even get the question out of my mouth.

He was talking about Elizabeth Warren, the Massachusetts senator and populist crusader whom Obama helped elevate to national prominence. Warren generally reserves her more acid critiques for Republicans and Wall Street, but in recent weeks she’s been leading a vocal coalition of leftist groups and lawmakers who oppose the president’s free-trade pact with 12 Asian countries.

This past week, as I had just reminded Obama, Warren launched her heaviest torpedo yet against the trade deal, alleging that some future president might use it as an excuse to undo the reregulation of Wall Street that Obama signed into law in 2010. In fact, as the White House quickly pointed out, language in the pact would expressly prevent that unless Congress voted to allow it.

One provision hidden in the fine print of the TPP trade agreement – ISDS – could let foreign companies challenge US laws without ever stepping in an American court. This week, five of the country’s top legal and economic experts – Joseph Stiglitz, Larry Tribe, Judith Resnik, Cruz Reynoso, and H. Lee Sarokin – all agreed: ISDS is “antithetical to the fair, public, and effective legal system that all Americans expect and deserve.” Read and share this important letter on why experts believe the President’s TPP trade agreement must exclude ISDS.

We have the same issue here with the TTIP treaty. There's also a ISDS provision in there.
People in Europe fear that for instance Monsanto would be able to sue for damages if a country in Europe were to decide not to allow GMO's. People also fear that this treaty would force European countries to import meat/milk etc. with lower food standards than we currently have here. Things like pink slime etc.

I guess there's one good thing about living with so many socialists, at least they hate these kinds of treaties. Might be for the wrong reason but I won't complain right now.

I wonder when all of the free trade proponents on here will step in and back up President Obama. The cognitive dissonance will be entertaining.
“When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I have determined to rout you out, and by the Eternal, I will rout you out!”

The Grinning Liar and Con Man talked a different talk at the 2007 AFL-CIO debate

Do you like being lied to by a chump that didn't publish a single paper on constitutional law while he was a constitutional law "professor"? He makes Bill Clinton look like an amateur when it comes to pulling wool over the dumbed down Americans heads.

Even that witch Hillary said "Nafta was a mistake"

The whole segment on "Free Trade" starts at 18:18

Of course, they were both lying through their teeth and "forgot" every single promise doled out to the suckers at the debate.

Here's what it sounds like when someone cares about US Sovereignty

And for you that say it's about "Free Trade" - only 5 of the 27 chapters are about "Free Trade" so you might want to start asking what the 22 others are for, along with why you side with the biggest con artist to ever occupy the white house.

Why don't you hold your breath waiting? That way, you won't be disappointed when those people don't show up. FWIW, I hate TPP as much as anybody. I just reserve a little more hate for the constant troll baiting (or lying in wait) that occurs far too often.

If you anticipate something will be said, why not wait until it is said and reply rationally?

Also, TPP is not about free trade and free trade proponents should have little difficulty opposing it. Perhaps you meant "free trade". OOOPS! My bad. Why not just wait next time and see what people actually say ....

I support free trade. I don't support state-managed trade i.e. NAFTA, TPP, etc.

    Is that clear enough?

NAFTA and GATT already do that, but it's so shameful that they've been pretending that US courts have jurisdiction when multinational corporations are doing biz with US corps.

The BP gulf oil leak is a prime example.

We know US. Agencies had no authority because the EPA issued no order to not spray core exit. They sent a letter to BP asking them not to. BP went ahead and sprayed.

Under GATT and NAFTA only governments have standing in the tribunal courts. Individuals have no rights. War on the people.

I've often thought that about socialist countries and appreciate them for that position.

Because of the abridging of the purpose of free speech, the acceptable aspects of capitalism are smothered by greed, indulgence and consumerism.

Believe it or not, the northwestern woodlands tribes practicing the potlatch were capitalists. Accordingly there is another form of capitalism that is spiritual which the purpose of free speech manifests.

Good examples of cognitive distortions in sarcasm. "Over generalizing" or " "all or nothing thinking"
