Barrow County may charge parents of truant students

The school called DFACS on a friend of my niece because her son had 6 unexcused absences. Here's the kicker, her son went to school all six of those days and the SCHOOL NURSE called her and told her to come and get him because he was sick.

Too many unexcused absences in one local county may get moms and dads in legal trouble.

The Barrow County school board is discussing possible criminal charges as part of a way to crackdown on truancy.

The school board’s discussions include passing a local ordinance that would make chronic truancy a local crime to be prosecuted by magistrate court.

“If they're not in school, we can't educate them,” said Matt Thompson with the Barrow County School System. Thompson says that's the bottom line the idea is tackling.

Barrow County counts 10 unexcused absences as truant. That rule is more lenient than the state's definition of five.

Why? Your children are property of the State, and not going to school keeps those schools from getting MOAR MONEY. Thus, Money is more important than your Children and supercedes ALL Rights you think you have.
