Justin Amash endorses Rand Paul for president

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) endorsed Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) for president Monday.

The endorsement from Amash, who was an ally of Paul's father, Ron, was no surprise. Amash and Paul come from the same playbook: libertarian-leaning members of Congress who relish in being a thorn in the side of the establishment, are privacy advocates and are willing to lob bombs at their opponents.

"Rand Paul is a once-in-a generation sort of candidate," Amash said at the Kent County Republican Party headquarters here, where he appeared with Paul. Amash praised Paul's calls for a balanced budget and to stop government surveillance of phones and computers, and his attempts to broaden the Republican Party by courting young people and minorities.

"Rand Paul is the most electable candidate for president that we have," Amash said. "He's the one person who can unite our party and also bring new people into the party."

Amash joins former congressman J.C. Watts, who introduced Paul at his campaign launch last month.

To no one's surprise. Hopefully Michigan likes Paul as well, given the amount of votes that Ellis got and how gung-ho folks were to get rid of Amash.

Is there a news report about this anywhere?

Sen. Rand Paul visits Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) Kentucky Senator and GOP candidate for President Rand Paul stopped in Grand Rapids Monday and received the endorsement of local U.S. Representative Justin Amash.

Amash introduced Paul and invited the crowd to "Stand with Rand."
Paul spoke on his efforts and desires to increase private security for U.S. citizens from eavesdropping and the sharing of personal data. His message also focuses on maintaining the integrity of the U.S. Constitution, including all ten amendments in the Bill of Rights.
Paul also spoke on the need of term limits in Washington.
We'll have more from the candidate on WZZM 13 News at Noon.

But Paul continues to poke at his Senate colleagues -- well, one in particular. For weeks, Paul and longtime adversary Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) have been tangling over their differing views on foreign policy. Paul swung back at McCain, who once labeled him and fellow presidential candidate Sen Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) "wacko birds."

I don't see why he doesn't bring back the line "you can be a minority from the color of your skin to the shade of your ideology"?

Awesome. I really like Amash and how he explains his votes on FB.

I guess Amash has a short term memory, iirc Ron Paul ran in 2008 and 2012

Because "Rand Paul is great, but he's definitely not his dad" makes for a super endorsement.

Besides, he called him a "Once in a life-time candidate". Not politician, or person, or inspiration, a candidate. Which is accurate. Rand makes for an entirely different political candidate from his dad. Different approach, different tactic, etc.

    facebook post

Today, I am honored to endorse Senator Rand Paul for president of the United States.

Rand Paul is the strongest defender of liberty and the Constitution in the United States Senate. Every day, Senator Paul stands up to the Washington machine and puts regular Americans first.

With his focus on individual rights, economic freedom, and limited government, Rand Paul is connecting with people of all ages and backgrounds, including people who normally do not vote Republican. Thanks to the broad appeal of his message and his willingness to engage new and diverse audiences, Rand Paul is uniquely positioned to win key primary states and defeat Hillary Clinton.

I am proud to stand with Rand as he runs to be a president for all Americans.
