Former Playboy model wrestles with police after protesters walk on flag

VALDOSTA, Ga. — A Georgia veteran is speaking out after being handcuffed during a protest on Friday for trying to keep people from walking on the American flag.

It was all caught on video shot by Michelle Manhart’s daughter during a protest at Valdosta State University.

It happened after Manhart heard about the protest where demonstrators were walking on the flag. Manhart said she made several complaints to the university.

“They had thrown it on the ground, they were walking on it, kicking it, you know making different motions against the flag itself,” said Manhart, a former Playboy model.

But the protests didn’t stop, so Manhart decided to take matters into her own hands.

Manhart said she saw the flag, walked up, picked it up and walked away.

And that’s when things escalated between Manhart, the demonstrators and campus police.

Manhart said she got upset when police gave the flag back to the demonstrators.

“I got a little unprofessional and called him a not-very-nice name because I was extremely upset that he told me one thing and he did something completely different,” Manhart said.

Manhart was taken into custody, but wasn’t charged. The university has banned her from campus activities, but she said she doesn’t have any regrets.

“If I had to do it again I would,” the Air Force veteran said.

And the air force veteran says she will continue to honor and protect those who serve our country.

“Our men and women who don’t get to come home are wrapped in that,” she said referring to the flag. “It’s draped over their caskets during their funerals. Same with our police officers, our firefighters. Our American flag is our American symbol.”

The average "Christian" in America gets more uptight about descecration of flag than blasphemy of God. I don't care if the flag means something to you or not. I have no intention of burning any flags. But you have absolutely no right to stop anyone else from doing so. America's "god" is itself, and its often proposed "blasphemy laws' are in protection of itself. Its ridiculous.

The only flag colors I find myself enjoying nowadays are black and yellow, not red, white, and blue.

I think destroying/burning flags isn't the best form of protest, but it's just a flag. For some, it represents the Government, while for others, they think it represents the values of the country.

It's unfortunate that the Government has given those colors such a bad name that people feel the need to destroy them.

I see you read how to influence people and make friends. I got no problem with people burning or walking on their own personal property probably made in China. If they try to burn my property or public property, then I have big problem with that. If you don't like what people are doing with their property, then telling them to burn their own ass is not going to get them to stop doing it. Maybe, telling them that America wasn't always corrupt and use to be a beacon of liberty for people around the world, instead of an imperial power that fights wars around the globe, would get them to stop burning their copy of the American flag.

Actually, it used to be very much against the law. It's interesting though, before joining this forum, the only people I ever saw who wanted to burn the flag were of the Marxist/Communist persuasion. Is that a coincidence or has this forum become a gathering spot for useful idiots?

A flag that is a symbol of an organic, genetically homogeneous, mono-cultural community can have deep meaning, symbolizing the blood and spirit of the nation. America on the other hand is a multi-ethnic multiracial, multicultural morass, barely fit to be called civilization. The US is not a nation, it is an crumbling empire, attempting to assimilate all kinds of actual nations into a pot, once called "melting", now clearly rotten and cracked.

I guess what Joel McDurmon said is playing out in almost every instance: every country has its blasphemy laws. You can tell what a nation's god is by what it prohibits you from disrespecting.
