Hillary: 'How Our Kids are Educated' is a 'NON-FAMILY Enterprise'

Educating “the next generation” is “the most important non-family enterprise” we have, said presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to a six-person round-table at her first campaign stop in Iowa.

Hillary’s statement came in response to a question from one of the members of the panel, Diane, a high school English teacher. In a long and winding question, Diane said: “I think we’re very blessed to live where we do… we have all these opportunities… and I worry that not all of America gets to experience this treasure that we have, and I think the Common Core curriculum is a wonderful step in the right direction of improving American education and it’s painful to see that attacked.”

“I’m just wondering what you can do to bring that heart back to education in the United States?” asked Diane. “What can we do so that parents, communities, and businesses believe in education and that teachers… are respected…?”

“Wow, that is really a powerful, touching comment that I absolutely embrace,” said Hillary.

“When I think about the really unfortunate argument that’s been going on around Common Core, it’s really …painful,” she said, using Diane’s exact word.

Without addressing the deeply unpopular curriculum’s critics, Clinton spoke of Common Core’s apolitical beginnings, before saying:

“Your question is really a larger one: how did we end up at a point where we are so negative about the most important non-family enterprise in the raising of the next generation, which is how our kids are educated.”

Hillary continued: “There are a lot of explanations for that I suppose, but whatever they are, we need to try to get back into a broad conversation where people will actually listen to each other again, and try to come up with solutions for problems, because the problems here in Monticello aren’t the same problems you’ll find in the inner city… that’s a given, we have to do things differently, but it should all be driven by the same commitment, to try to make sure we do educate every child.”

“That’s why I was a senator and voted for Leave No Child Behind because I thought every child should matter… every child should have the same opportunity,” said Hillary.

This is exactly the type of stuff that we need a Ron Paul facepalm icon for. This is so full of fail, I don't even know where to start.

I'm actually a little surprised to hear her siding with common core given how low it polls. There must be some donors that are counting on it.

You go girl! strap on those golf shoes and tap dance on your genitals some more! Fantastic job!

This was made for parody. I'm thinking that easy animation thing that was used to bash quantitative easing that went viral... I know weee've talked about it. Anyone recall that programs name?

go overboard and really get into it "that's why I voted for NCLB, so we can take parents and local communities out of the education loop, so we can politicize the curriculum, teach to the slowest member of the class, stick the special ed students in every classroom and drug the bright kids into a stupor, it's the only way elites like myself will remain in control"

She's doing at least a month of these broadcast small group meetings before she addresses a crowd because her polling says the American public view her at totally out of touch with them.

Teachers' unions, textbook publishers, testing companies, psychologists, drug companies, security companies, CPS, social workers, and all the rest that benefit from common core and it's side effects. Just ask, who benefits?

Does she think she's running for President, or the office of Devil? Probably wants to merge both I guess....

Yeah, I know others have been working on that too.

    H. L. Mencken said it best:

“Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.”

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

Yeah, it's the government's job to ensure that all of OUR kiddoes learn less.

She actually touted her vote for No Child Left Behind as a GOOD thing?

As a teacher myself, $#@! her if she thinks education should be left solely in the hands of teachers. There is a growing problem when it comes to parents thinking that they don't have to put any effort at home when it comes to educating their child.

Your kids will have something that most "publicly schooled" children lack, an actual education.

The people behind Hillary Clinton are not interested in your children being able to think for themselves, quite the opposite actually. The type of school system that America has adopted is not about learning (that's secondary at best), but rather about group conformity.

I support public schools in theory because the rationale behind them is accessibility to information, but with the advent of the information age, you don't need to yank peoples' kids out of their homes for half of their childhoods. And even if it were necessary at some point in history, the notion of family not being involved is an abomination.

School is daycare. Let's not make it complicated.

Well, I think it's hard to generalize.

Personally, school was an escape from family life for me. You have to realize that for a pretty large segment of society kids are better off mentally NOT staying home during the day for reasons totally unrelated to what they are being "brainwashed" with. Teachers are held more accountable for their level of care than parents.

But I do enjoy the way all the libertarians get their panties in a twist when this subject comes up. They make it sound so cut and dry!

Mentions of a collective "Village" often make me think of Marshal Mcluhan's comments that Village Life is often over rated and in many cases more often violent.

Not that all cooperative effort is a bad thing, but using a heavy hand to corral people together just leads to bad results and builds resentment amongst people. Human beings really need their space. Push us together and there will be friction.

There is nothing wrong with school if it is completely private and not provided by the government at the expense of tax payers.

Most people may not realize that Hillary was the mastermind behind the 1997 Adoption and Safe Families Act (ASFA, Public Law 105-89), which was signed into law by her husband who gets a bad rap for that bill, because it brought more federal money to the states for taking children away from their families and putting them into foster care. Many see a direct correlation between increased State-sponsored kidnappings and the passage of that bill which provided incentive to take children away from their families. (Wikipedia has a good entry on this.)

However, what most fail to realize was that the House and Senate which handed that bill to Clinton was controlled by a Republican majority led by Newt Gingrich.

So when you moan and groan about "family rights", historically the neocons are just as much responsible as the liberals.
