    Stones of Inflation

Rolling Stones announced yet another tour and tickets in San Diego just went on sale today. I saw the band as early as 1978 as well as 1981 and 1984. I have a ticket stub from the 1981 show and ticket price was $16.00 plus service charge (which as I recall was about 10% or say $2). Heart and George Thorogood were also on the bill. Most of the tickets to this show now are $175 plus $43 in fees. (field tickets are $400 and upper deck of the stadium are $90 plus fees). Just the fees are more than double what the whole ticket once was. Of course rock and roll economics are different then. Also logistics. Shows are bigger and can require ten or more semis loaded with equipment. Maybe one or two back then. Bands used to get most of their revenues from album sales- today it is ticket sales. Not many bands I am willing to put down that kind of cash on. Paul McCartney was worth it. Debating this show- prices are a bit steep.

Mick Jagger went to the London School of Economics. I was there for a semester myself. He didn't graduate. He left school in his third year- after his band got their first recording contract. I think things turned out alright for him.
