    2016 Candidate Twitter Follower Comparison

    I know Twitter follower numbers can be manipulated, but I thought it would be interesting see where the candidates currently stack up:

    Candidate Followers

    @HillaryClinton 3.12M
    @JoeBiden 766k
    @marcorubio 699k
    @RandPaul 588k
    @GovChristie 517k
    @SenTedCruz 430k
    @GovMikeHuckabee 358k
    @CarlyFiorina 351k
    @RealBenCarson 314k
    @GovernorPerry 281k
    @RickSantorum 228k
    @BobbyJindal 180k
    @SenWarren 175k
    @JebBush 174k
    @AmbJohnBolton 166k
    @GovGaryJohnson 124k
    @ScottWalker 115k

    Notables:
    @RonPaul 537k
    @BarackObama 57.8M
    @realDonaldTrump 2.84M
    @SenJohnMcCain 1.95M
    @MittRomney 1.63M
    @SarahPalinUSA 1.14M

    I was surprised at Bush's low number and the high number of Rubio followers.

    Also, apparently Hillary has gained ~420k followers, about a 15% (?) increase in less than 10 weeks, which sounds crazy to me considering how long she has been a national figure and a previous candidate.

    Fake, sock puppet followers. There are companies that do that for cash in order to manipulate public opinion. Lemming factor.

    I bet most of those "followers" are new joins and are following one person...

    If there is any interest in it, I can track FB/Twitter growth and post a weekly report or if someone else who did it last go-around and would like to do it again or has a better method, let me know!

    Yes, please. Keep in mind though, that at least Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have 2 official pages.

    Thanks! I will include those.

    I think Cruz uses this account more for his Presidential campaign. https://twitter.com/tedcruz
    I don't think Rand has used more than one account on Twitter since 2010.

    This whole Bush narrative is just that. He doesn't have supporters. He doesn't have ANY grassroots. The ONLY reason he is being talked about is a Trojan horse candidate to help get Hillary elected.

    The fact that so many young people continue to support Military Clinton baffles me... They know nothing about her. They usually disagree with a lot of her foreign policy endeavors yet continue to rally behind her for what boils down to one reason. "War on women" my a**. There are no principals or any policy considerations involved, whatsoever. It's borderline cultish. In the general, most of America will not support her. She will be exposed, as she has been many times already. Whatever millions are spent supporting her will be money down the drain. Once Rand has the nomination, he's got the Presidency in the bag. He will win by a landslide (of course a lot of this will be due to moronic reasons, i.e. people just being tired of Democrats).

    Question Something like this?

    Ok, here are the metrics I came up with. I will try to do this every Sunday evening if that makes the most sense and come up with a good thread title too. Are there any formatting changes I should make or metrics I should include or remove? Not the most tech/spreadsheet savvy. I was going to link the most retweeted and most favorited tweets of the week as well.

    About TwitterAudit

    Each audit takes a random sample of 5000 Twitter followers for a user and calculates a score for each follower. This score is based on number of tweets, date of the last tweet, and ratio of followers to friends. We use these scores to determine whether any given user is real or fake. Of course, this scoring method is not perfect but it is a good way to tell if someone with lots of followers is likely to have increased their follower count by inorganic, fraudulent, or dishonest means.

    TwitterAudit is not affiliated with Twitter in any way.
