Reuters had reported on Wednesday that Paul would announce his candidacy on April 7th, according to an unnamed source close to Paul.

Paul’s office was unable to be reached for comment on the filing. This would make Sen. Rand Paul the first candidate on either the Republican or Democratic side to file for the Presidency.

UPDATE 2:09 p.m.: Turns out everybody jumped the gun. The FEC needed to link PAC expenditures to a candidate ID number, which Paul didn’t have, so they invented one for him. The appearance of a candidate ID looked as though Paul had filed, but he had not. Here’s what the filing looks like:

It's not the anouncement, but a filing is important, and pretty much solidifies everything we already know. Now, we wait for April 7th for the big announcement.

This is a hoax. You guys are so gullible.

If he files with the FEC, he is announced, no matter when he holds the press conference. It would defeat the whole purpose of waiting until April 7th, which is to let him start fundraising at the beginning of the fiscal quarter.
