Sheldon Adelson signals he値l bankroll effort to stop Rand Paul

    http://www.salon.com/2015/02/24/shel...top_rand_paul/

Casino magnate and Republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson, one of the GOP痴 most forceful advocates for a hawkish foreign policy, is willing to fund an effort to stop Rand Paul from securing the party痴 presidential nomination, should the libertarian-leaning Kentucky senator痴 campaign pick up steam.

The revelation comes in a New York Times analysis of the GOP痴 internal divisions over foreign policy heading into next year痴 campaign. The rise of the Islamic State militant group has reinvigorated interventionists like Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Marco Rubio (R-FL), both of whom would make national security and global affairs central themes of their presidential campaigns, should they run. Meanwhile, Paul is coming under withering intra-party criticism due to his general reluctance to support military force and his backing for the Obama administration痴 positions on the Iranian nuclear negotiations and the diplomatic rapprochement with Cuba.

典he guy who痴 now got the biggest challenge because of this is Rand Paul, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, told the Times, speaking of the GOP痴 increased attention to foreign policy. 典he Rand Paul worldview, which I suspect will change, is just incompatible with reality.

While it remains to be seen how Paul痴 all-but-certain campaign will perform, Adelson is telling associates that he値l bankroll an effort to thwart the senator should he come within reach of securing the party痴 nod, the paper reports.

Though Adelson has yet to back a 2016 candidate, GOP hopefuls are vying assiduously to secure his support in next year痴 contest. Scott Walker, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, Mike Huckabee, and John Kasich have all made sojourns to Las Vegas to curry favor with Adelson, who contributed $150 million to Republican candidates and outside groups during the 2012 campaign. Adelson backed Gingrich in that year痴 GOP primaries, pouring $15 million into his campaign. While Gingrich lost the nomination to Mitt Romney, Adelson痴 contributions kept Gingrich痴 campaign afloat far longer than it would otherwise have remained above water.

So can people maybe see how dumb it is to not fully support Rand because of some silly feud with Jesse Benton or because he's not quite as "pure" as Ron? Rand is going to need all of the help and all the donations he can get going up against Sheldon Adelson and the rest of the GOP establishment.

    And so it begins....
擢orce the normies into taking sides. At the moment they are just like "meh, I am minding my own business" retreating culturally into their private bubbles and "safe-spaces" since they don't understand what is going on. When the actual "us vs them" starts, they will be forced to fight or they'll die. - Anonymous Poster

Adelson is a rich man because of our laws restricting internet gambling.

Even if Adelson didn't give a hoot about foreign policy, he would still try to defeat any candidate promising greater freedom to people.

And I just told all my friends who knew about Rand from me in 2014 and reminded them he funded all those commercials all our parents saw........statism is either becoming easier to point out or the statists have run out of juice to keep the mirage going much longer.

Adelson probably already funds internet trolls...

At what point will the general public stop seeing Palpatine and start seeing Darth Sidious (with regards to the state)? His argument is that Rand's views are incompatible with reality? How so? He doesn't say. Rand will demolish these fascists on the debate stage.

Well, Adelson's millions couldn't save Newt Gingrich. Even so, it sucks to know right off the bat you're up against a multimillion dollar wall just from one person...

Rand is the neocons' worst nightmare. That should be the only reason we all need to support him IMO.

If Rand Paul wants our support, he should earn it. Not because Sheldon Adelson hates him. Sheldon Adelson seems supportive of Ted Cruz. You and him have something in common.

Well if he's against us then I guess we should just give up and quit since we don't have a chance....

So Peter Thiel and the Koch Bros. vs. Adelson & Wall Street? Let's dance.

That really has nothing to do with his wealth. His company, Las Vegas Sands, does more business alone than than the entire world online gambling market. Some of his competitors favor opening up the online poker market because they are hurting and it would add another source of revenue. Adelson has the biggest, most profitable casino business and he doesn't want his competitors getting any oxygen so he is trying to use government to protect his turf.

Bring it, Adelson. You got your ass kicked in 2012, you'll get your ass kicked again in 2016.

They didn't need to. They just needed to prevent Ron Paul from gaining any traction as an alternative to Romney until after the Florida primary.

I will enjoy watching Adelson waste more, just like he did last time.

This. Newt, like Santorum, was just in the race to astroturf and crowd out the legitimate Romney opposition. There's no way even Newt himself was dumb enough to think he could have won.

Based on the idea of natural rights, government secures those rights to the individual by strictly negative intervention, making justice costless and easy of access; and beyond that it does not go. The State, on the other hand, both in its genesis and by its primary intention, is purely anti-social. It is not based on the idea of natural rights, but on the idea that the individual has no rights except those that the State may provisionally grant him. It has always made justice costly and difficult of access, and has invariably held itself above justice and common morality whenever it could advantage itself by so doing.
