Not really. He has spent the past 6 years as a host on foxnews where his job was to be likeable and he hasn't had to make any national votes or decisions that upsets anybody. Ditto for palin.

But how does that factoid translate into actual votes?

    H. L. Mencken said it best:

“Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.”

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

If that is the case I guarantee Rand has declined, his plan to broaden the party and be non traditional may pay off in a general but not with primary voters. However he may get there votes if he can show he is most electable otherwise a moderate will win.
