Thread: Anyone finished their Christmas shopping?

    Anyone finished their Christmas shopping?

I made cookies and brownies Monday and Tuesday for friends. I bought my mom a new sewing/embroidery machine and I bought both of my kids a t-shirt. That's it. I'm a little anxious because I have no idea what I'm getting anyone. My kids said they wanted money but I feel bad just handing them a wad of cash. Anyone else stuck? I'm going shopping this afternoon, maybe something will jump out at me.

Oh and stocking stuffers....what the hell do you put in a teenage boys stocking that he actually wants? My kids aren't really candy eaters and I hate just buying junk they don't care about.

I dunno--give 'em 4 quarts of synthetic oil and tell 'em to learn how to change the oil in the car? (If they don't already know.) Lessons in something they're interested in? (guitar, computer stuff, whatever.) Ice cream maker w/ingredients--or equipment to make whatever their favorite food is.

    Socks.

Some sort of football thing, if they're into that. Isn't everyone in Georgia?

I got a new Sonicare toothbrush and a mandolin.

But yeah, I'm done--had everyone over last weekend and got it over with. I just have to pick up some ballet shoes for the kid.

Nah. The kind that removes your fingers. I did get one for my Italian ex years ago though, that and a banjo.

We keep things pretty small at our house. I finished on Tuesday. We do some online shopping and have it shipped to the grandchildren. This year I had a few things that were purchased locally. That box shipped early Wednesday morning. They received it today.

Husband and I decided to go to see a local production of A Christmas Story. We had a blast. We will also go out to breakfast at the most wonderful place. They seat family style and bring piles and piles of wonderful food. That will probably have to wait until after the first of the year because husband is working a seasonal second job and is tied up weekend mornings.

Done. I don't shop for many people. Those I do shop for live out of state now, so I have something delivered to them.

    DONE!!!! YAY!!!

I bought the boys some clothes, they needed a few things. Old Navy had a great sale, I bought 4 long sleeve t-shirts, a pair of jeans, a pair of nice sweatpants, a hoodie and a winter coat for $155.00 AND I got a $60.00 coupon for after the first of the year...sweet. I also bought the boys some Under Armour underpants, they asked for those. I bought my little niece a fancy fan (it's adorable) and some other dress up stuff, I bought my little nephew a Lego set and I bought a couple of packs of money cards - the rest are getting cash. Then mom and I went out to eat and had a few glasses of wine to celebrate our shopping awesomeness.

So you bought your teenage sons some clothes. I'm sure they will be excited. Maybe next year you can get them socks to match.

They're getting a nice chunk of money too. I just wanted them to have something besides cash to unwrap on Christmas.

Long years of trial and error have convinced me that I'm a walking disaster when it comes to shopping for presents. For me, giving cash is the way to go. In fact, I've discovered many aspects of cash make it the ideal gift:

    It's always the right color.

    It's always the right size.

    It matches everything.

It never goes out of style.

If someone has already received it as a gift, they don't complain about getting it again.

You never have to worry that you could have gotten it cheaper somewhere else.

Gift wrapping is very easy, and can usually be picked up at the bank counter.

No one is going to get rid of it as a "re-gift."

Best of all? NO ONE EVER FEELS THE NEED TO RETURN IT!

I always buy a bunch of the Perth Mint Australian Lunars to give out as default gifts for anybody I don't buy something specific for or surprises me with a gift. Its easy and its a different design each year. 2015 is the year of the goat.

    That is so perfect.
I'm going to buy one of those for my #1 son and put it up for his birthday (too late to get it in time for Christmas). We call #1 son Goaty, he's trying to grow a beard but he's only got like 8 long hairs under his chin, he looks like a ridiculous goat man/boy.

Done. Did 95% of it online and I started in October. I got some of my family members art prints and put in black frames with white mats. I got my son a picture of the blueprint drawing of an 86 Delorean and framed it. I got him one last year of a Gibson guitar.

I talked to my brother last night and he informed me they're down to two arrows. He was out there shooting with them the other week, I have a feeling he's the one that lost the arrows. I'm going to buy them arrows for their stocking and they could use new tackle boxes too, thanks for the reminder. I got them these cool bags to hold their rods last year and they want small tackle boxes that'll fit in the bags so they don't have to carry their big one all the time. Looks like I have another errand to run.
