Activist group urges city leaders to ban toy guns

CLEVELAND -- A Birmingham activist group is urging the ban of fake guns sales across the country.

The Outcast Voters League has started a push to end sales of these guns, after 12-year-old Tamir Rice was shot and killed by an officer while holding an airsoft gun on Nov. 22.

"We call on parents to get rid of these toys," said Frank Matthews, president of the league. "We call on toy manufacturers to quit making toys that look like real guns. We are losing our children to countless acts of injustice."

His group plans to burn and smash toy guns in every state over the next 13 months. They held their first of many demonstrations Sunday night at Cudell Recreation Center where Rice was killed.

"If we can get rid of 20 guns then we can change the conversation to getting rid of guns," said Carlos Chaverst of Outcast Voters League. "We see that most other countries are very successful without guns."

Although Matthews is a Cleveland native, his group is based out of Birmingham Alabama. He says he has encouraged lawmakers there to consider legislation banning the sale, possession or use of fake guns and wants to see that happen all over the country.

"I think that should take them off the shelves," said Mikal Baker of Cleveland who went to the demonstration. "A young man is 12 years old and just lost his life for a toy gun. That's not right."

The groups next stop, Monday they plan to be in Columbus where they will be smashing more guns at the state capitol.

“The spirits of darkness are now among us. We have to be on guard so that we may realize what is happening when we encounter them and gain a real idea of where they are to be found. The most dangerous thing you can do in the immediate future will be to give yourself up unconsciously to the influences which are definitely present.” ~ Rudolf Steiner

I think it would be better just to have cops stop shooting people who they think have guns.

A young man is 12 years old and just lost his life due to a goddam trigger-happy cop with a real gun. THAT is what is "not right."

Yea, that is exactly the reason; it had nothing to do with a nosy, overbearing see-something-say-something loyalist or the arriving LEO that freaking went on a rampaging shooting spree. No, it was due to a little kid making-pretend with a mass-produced toy gun. "Outcast" what a lame play on words, idiots.

Retrieving a license from inside your vehicle after being ordered to do so is reason enough for execution. This leaves you 2 choices. Get beaten for telling the officer that you cannot give them your license or get shot for trying to get your license for the officer.

Maybe you could drive your own armored truck. Then if you get pulled over just stay inside and hand license through a tiny slot. Do not exit the vehicle for any reason without mass media in the vicinity. Keep comfortable inside with refrigerator and wifi. Have cameras all over the vehicle inside and out. Just remember never exit the vehicle!

Proof that there is no shortage of idiots in America.
"We are losing our children to countless acts of injustice."

The implication there being... what, exactly? Either that the existence of toy guns is itself an "injustice" (probable meaning), or that the shooting of children by cowards in badges is (improbable meaning). Not matter how you slice the parse on that sentence, the writer looks like a blithering imbecile.

Do they call for police to be held accountable? No.

Do they call for ANYTHING suggestive of minimal intelligence? No.

They call for banning of toys.

    Brilliant.

How is it when I was a kid we all had toy guns, some of them very convincing looking. We used to "shoot" people all the time, INCLUDING COPS. I must have shot Mr, Kegan, an NYPD beat cop, a hundred times. I feel compelled to note that at no time during my childhood did I ever once hear of a cop shooting a child. Not once. Had it ever happened, it certainly would have been big talk all over NYC. Never, ever, even once, did it happen, yet damned near every boy in the city had a toy gun.

Let the cops explain how that could possibly have been the case?

We are in a soft civil war.

There is only one correct way: freedom. All other solutions are non-solutions.

It appears that artificial intelligence is at least slightly superior to natural stupidity.

Our words make us the ghosts that we are.

Convincing the world he didn't exist was the Devil's second greatest trick; the first was convincing us that God didn't exist.

Thirty years ago, this would have earned you the derision of everyone about you. They would have labeled you an idiot, mentally retarded, a case of arrested development, and all manner of other unflattering assessments. Today, your words leave many thinking ,"if only I could afford it."

There is only so much I can take of socialists and closet communist vomiting verbiage consisting of a string of incoherent thoughts that have no rational meaning, designed solely to provide cover for evil intentions.
Out of every one hundred men they send us, ten should not even be here. Eighty will do nothing but serve as targets for the enemy. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, upon them depends our success in battle. But one, ah the one, he is a real warrior, and he will bring the others back from battle alive.

Duty is the most sublime word in the English language. Do your duty in all things. You can not do more than your duty. You should never wish to do less than your duty.

Well, right now I'm wondering how much the cops would freak out of they looked in the back window and saw a couple dozen cap guns on the back seat.

I'm guessing I would be summarily executed for having such a display.

And don't forget to ban phasers. And light sabres. And black sticks. And U.S. puzzles that include states with panhandles.

And just to be safe, take your children in to have both index fingers surgically removed. Better safe than sorry. After all, militarized, mistrained, 'roided out cops are the law now, and in a republic, why, there's just not a damned thing you can do about it.

Or better still, let's burn down the Channel 11 studio, and the brilliant 'think tank' that dreamed this crap up, and take our country back.

I cannot say it is guaranteed execution, but the risk is certainly high enough to warrant serious concern. Just think about that a moment. Rotten as police have always been, there was a time when they held themselves in what would be great restraint by today's normal. To me, that is indication that the men were far better then, than now.

Keep clear that there are three distinct quality measures to consider. The first is that of the man himself. Is he "good"? A psychopath of some manner and degree? Second, there is the measure of evil built into to job itself, usually and most simply stated at the manner and degree to which a cop is called upon to violate the rights of his fellows. Finally, there is the interface between the two, which boils down to this: how far is the man behind the badge willing to debase himself in pursuit of his obedience to enforce the codifications of violence against his fellows?

The job does not have to be rotten in its fabric; but it is in fact so because of the evil codifications it compels its members to enforce and the drift in mindset that has contaminated and infected those in that line of work, who have deemed themselves a class separate and superior to the rest, save the handful who stand above them. It is that retardation of mind that has cemented the chain of obedience of the lapdog to Theire command.

And now, because of this fundamental change in posture, the wretched and disfigured creature that the "profession" has become now attracts the precise opposite brands of basic personality that is ought. It no longer attracts those who wish to do the good for their fellows, but rather the ones who wish only to exercise dominion.

The whammy against us is triply hazardous and it gets worse by the day.
