Working with pipe is fun. I once made a decorative slide trumpet out of 3/4 copper pipe w/ a rubber plunger as the bell for a local blues bar.
I'd say if one were to do this they should integrate some metal screen on the sides and back. Cut some design in it (snowflakes or woodsy theme). I'd also go with a four corner topper with some screen so that there is some storage space, or decorative space, on the top.

That is totally a smart idea.

The most dangerous thing you can do in the immediate future will be to give yourself up unconsciously to the influences which are definitely present.” ~ Rudolf Steiner

Nice, used black gas pipe! Looks nice.

Saves on all the black paint galvanized pipe
    or (flammable) PVC would require.

Flanges over wheels looks very strong...
I trust a good base material was selected.
[EDIT - Just looked at the construction photos...
BEAUTIFUL. Could move the whole house on it!]

Maybe good idea ...except for storing all that FW indoors.

I think I can see all kinds of bugs crawling out,
without even looking at the picture. Maybe the
spiders and cat can keep it all under control...

Typically, a fireplace allows more heat to escape
(over time) than the occasional roaring fire provides
to heat the house if there is already an HVAC in use!

To save even more, just burn rolls of $1 bills.

Check out how these folks have stacked their firewood.

Stay warm or destroy the masterpiece? Tough choice....

Not so tough. Depends on how cold one is. If it were cold enough I would burn the first edition of the King James.

I'd just turn on the heat.

Fun topic.. I'm having something similar welded up by a friend, made out of box tube though. Not because I need a place to store firewood but because I like to have something nice to store it in. I'll post some pics when it's done.

Got the stove burning.. Heats the entire house at about 1-2 average pieces of wood per hour. Foot long splits. 1-3 cords per winter, depending on how cold/windy it is. (Not the entire day is heated by wood, just the late afternoon-evening.)

A place I lived once had a huge fireplace. I used it all the time but I stacked the wood on the front porch. The fireplace was large enough I did not have to split the wood . I store all of my wood outside and in the basement where I am now.If I was going to store wood in the front room I would split it and knock all the bark off and not bring it in until there was a hard frost .Cuts down on the bugs a bit.
