Former RPF Member Iyad el Baghdadi Seeks Asylum in Norway

    https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2...ring-activist/

Earlier this year, as a wave of counterrevolution and repression continued to roll back popular democratic uprisings across the Middle East, one of the Arab Spring’s most popular online activists found himself sitting in a jail cell.

Iyad el-Baghdadi, a popular blogger and Twitter personality who first came to prominence during the revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia, was arrested by authorities in the United Arab Emirates in April. Detained, imprisoned and then expelled from the country, he has been living in limbo in Malaysia ever since.

Baghdadi – a Palestinian refugee born and raised in the UAE – maintained a highly active social media presence during the revolutions which suddenly went quiet earlier this year, shortly after the death of his friend and well-known Egyptian activist Bassem Sabry. His last Tweet, about Sabry’s death, was on April 30th.

Based on the idea of natural rights, government secures those rights to the individual by strictly negative intervention, making justice costless and easy of access; and beyond that it does not go. The State, on the other hand, both in its genesis and by its primary intention, is purely anti-social. It is not based on the idea of natural rights, but on the idea that the individual has no rights except those that the State may provisionally grant him. It has always made justice costly and difficult of access, and has invariably held itself above justice and common morality whenever it could advantage itself by so doing.

Norway's not a done deal. He RT'd this, so if anyone's on teh twitter:

Wednesday held El-Baghdadi his speech on human rights conference in the capital.Thursday or Friday delivers his asylum application. Attorney Jostein Løken confirmed to news channel NTB that he assists the El-Baghdadi with your application, but will not say anything more about the case so far.

The blogger, who is stateless Palestinian, lived until this spring in the United Arab Emirates. But in April, he surprisingly told that he no longer wanted in the country and was deported to Malaysia. He has now been granted a residence permit in Malaysia, but do not feel confident they.

El-Baghdadi did not know why he is unwanted in the Emirates, where he has lived all his life, but he thinks it may be because he has written critically about the military regime in Egypt.United Arab Emirates supports this regime.
    Reason mentioned him here:

Another person you probably never heard about is Iyad El-Baghdadi (@iyad_elbahdadi), a Palestinian blogger who grew up in United Arab Emirates. The authorities called him in to a police interview in April, and he was promptly escorted to the airport and onto a plane to Kuala Lumpur where he has been stuck since. He still has no idea why, as he has never criticized the UAE government. However, his Twitter account is consistently ranked as one of the most important voices out of the Middle-East and he has satirized leaders targeted by the Arab Spring uprisings. His wife was seven months pregnant at the time and he just recently met his child. His expulsion from UAE has caused him to see the plight of paperless refugees and how they get stranded in prisons and airports for long periods of time.

I will grant him asylum in Lone Pine, LA. All he need is to let me know via PM, and I'll arrange him a safe place to seek shelter.

Don't Swedish meatballs contain ground beef and some sort of sweet jelly-like crap?

    I'd rather eat lutefisk.

Oh, and he's married--probably won't be interested in your large lady-folks out there.

I believe he is married.. but it's the thought that counts.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.
