Thread: Student’s photo of skimpy Michelle Obama school lunch sparks outrage

I'm in my mid 20s, and elementary school lunch was pretty good. Waffles, sausage, burgers, sloppy joe, Potatoe wedges, tater tots, burgers, and etc. It got worse as the years past by or higher in grade.

Then I had 4 years of soda and chips in highscgool.

That's actually not the worst lunch I can think of, what if they actually gave them a ham sandwich and only used half the ham? I'll take a double serving of ham and crackers over a single serving of ham and two pieces of bread. Probably could have give them more cauliflower, maybe add a carrot in there for some color? That's not so hard. What happened to the fruit? Isn't fruit on the plate?

It might not be too shabby as to ingredients. There just isn't enough of it for kids over about fourth grade--especially girls who have begun mentrual cycles or any kid who plays sports. My six year old grandson eats more than that. So does his 3yo sister.

I would rather have carrots than cauliflower. Carrots have a lot of vitamin A, and cauliflower (which I like) does not support thyroid.

It's pretty clear the Obama girls get plenty to eat.

Like I said, my grandchildren eat more than that, and they are not obese, either. They eat at least one meatless meal a week at home and eat regular school lunches during the week.

C'mon, how can you expect them to learn to eat The Proper Way if they aren't taught from a young age by Our Glorious Leaders?

It would take me about three minutes to eat that meal. It would take about five times that much food to fill me up.

I have to home school, there's just not another way unless I can find (and afford) a private school that's up to snuff.

May I ask why teh hate? Seems like a fun thing to do with the kids if you like them enough to create them.

Home schooling is awesome. There are so many more resources now than when we were doing it and the laws weren't quite so friendly.

With the vast amount of money we are spending on Education this is the best we can do?

Growing kids should be spending the majority of their time outside running around, eating as much food as they want for their growing bodies. I'd say elementary school should be 3, maybe 4 hours a day maximum. Only when they get to high school should they kick it up to 6 or 7 hours for the Honors kids.

What's really going on here is that the school system is acting like a day care, taking the kids off the parents hands because they're both working, or too irresponsible to raise a child themselves.

Yeah, I'm outraged too. Why isn't the government coming to my house and giving my kid a bath? Why aren't they tucking him in at night? What kind of world is this?

At his public school, Little Village Academy on Chicago's West Side, students are not allowed to pack lunches from home. Unless they have a medical excuse, they must eat the food served in the cafeteria.
But parent Miguel Medina said he thinks the "no home lunch policy" is a good one.

If it's good enough for Miguel Medina, then it should be good enough for all you complaining mother $#@!ers.

Jesus. Looks like budget cuts hit basic necessities pretty hard in that district.

Meanwhile the superintendent is probably making $500,000/year. Gotta make sure he gets his raise and 2-to-1 matching pension every month. Sorry kids, the dumpster is out back.

I suspect the school districts contracts with food vendors being cost effective depends on kids eating at school especially since so many kids get free lunches. It's about money.

I have no kids,, I have no kids in school. My property Taxes pay for it anyway.

As well as an army of police we don't need either.

About the only "service" I do appreciate are the Road crews (snow removal).
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

A majority of it goes to teachers salaries. My state, Michigan, has a law that forbids public sector workers from striking. At one point while I was in high school the teachers wanted to go on strike for increased wages and so had to wear little pins asking for higher salaries. The local newspaper ran an article at the same time as the protest that said teachers in my city earned over $60,000 per year on average, plus benefits, with the highest paid teacher making $100,000+. Granted, my city's schools are considered some of the best in the country, but when considering the cost of living here is so small you just can't have sympathy for the teachers.

Regarding lunch, when I was in middle school we had our choice of Dominos Pizza, Name brand potato chips, Hamburgers, Nachos with cheese and meat, hot dogs, candy and candy bars, coke/pepsi products, milk if we wanted it, Little Debbie style treats, etc... As a kid, I loved it.

Then they outsourced the cafeteria food to some corporation who served nothing but gray crappy food and many of us chose to start bringing our own lunches from home.

So, yeah. They throw all the money away on over-compensated teachers and new electronics when students read 8 year old books and eat gray food for lunch.
    No more IRS.
I am now old enough to vote.
