[Armstrong] 1.8 Million Protest in Spain Demanding Separation Like Scotland

    http://armstrongeconomics.com/2014/0...like-scotland/

“Independence, independence”, has been the new cry of the people today in Spain in the center of the Catalan capital. Two main roads that converge at a place filled over a distance of seven miles with people. Here, a “V” for “Victoria” (Victory) was formed. The amount of protesters is very impressive and the police have been gearing up for this because they know what is coming.

    Best trend ever.

    Thanks Putin :P
    In New Zealand:
    The Coastguard is a Charity
Air Traffic Control is a private company run on user fees
The DMV is a private non-profit
Rescue helicopters and ambulances are operated by charities and are plastered with corporate logos
The agriculture industry has zero subsidies
5% of the national vote, gets you 5 seats in Parliament
A tax return has 4 fields
    Business licenses aren't a thing
    Prostitution is legal
We have a constitutional right to refuse any type of medical care

I had no idea Spain was part of the UK.

Proponents of secession from Spain think an independent Catalonia would achieve a higher standard of living.

The only reason this is possible is because they don't have to worry about the military defense of their people. We've got that covered for them, so they are free to break off into a small little independent, indefensible pieces of land.

On the flip side, socialists want everybody united under the same banner, so that they can better redistribute wealth. This trend undermines their rule on high. More competition, more flavors of government, hopefully more freedom.

The dynamics are very interesting here. I think that the most efficient way to structure things would be for all of the little independent enclaves of people to all contribute to an extremely limited federation which provides for their common defense and manages interstate conflicts, while retaining the vast majority of their governing power for themselves.

Pretty much an idealized version of what America used to be. The founders had it right from the get go, and I think that as time goes on you will see things begin to organize themselves in this direction.

The downside of course is that all of the power mad crazies who want to impose their will on everybody will all cluster towards the central government, (which is what happened to the EU and US), but as time goes on we'll begin to find ways to prevent this trend.

In my opinion it will take a more harshly worded and strictly enforced constitution.

'We endorse the idea of voluntarism; self-responsibility: Family, friends, and churches to solve problems, rather than saying that some monolithic government is going to make you take care of yourself and be a better person. It's a preposterous notion: It never worked, it never will. The government can't make you a better person; it can't make you follow good habits.' - Ron Paul 1988

According to Armstrong it doesn't matter if the vote is Yes/No next week.

    http://armstrongeconomics.com/2014/0...ust-economics/

The Great Depression in 1933 brought Hitler, Mao, and FDR to power all in the same year. This is always about economics. So a NO vote will only still lead to a YES movement within 2 years.

I hope you are right cos I have a sick feeling that if the vote is NO, the English are going to take measures to solidly bind Scotland to it forever. I don't know how but I can't imagine 10 downing street allowing something this terrifying to happen to them again.

I have absolutely no idea what will happen. Armstrong's models are the ones saying it will happen regardless.

This is actually the fourth straight year they have done this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Ca...tonomy_protest It is a regional holiday so everybody is off work.

I saw estimates of this year's crowd range from 500,000 (the police figures) to 2 million (Russia Today).

    Isn't Spain's unemployment rate ~25%?

Why can't collective defense be effective with small countries the same total size as a few big countries? That doesn't follow.

Yep. Put Catalan in search and you'll see a few threads about it. Maybe they'll get off their ass and do it now.

See WWII. That doesn't mean that if we never got involved the world would be hell, or that they shouldn't have to provide their own defense.

Wow, that is one organized protest.
Non-violence is the creed of those that maintain a monopoly on force.
