Rand Paul mulls China medical mission

By MIKE ALLEN | 9/10/14 6:54 AM EDT

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), after spending six days in Guatemala this summer doing free eye surgeries, plans a similar pro bono mission for next summer, perhaps in China, he told POLITICO in an interview.

Paul, who traveled with three staff members, journalists from five news organizations, plus conservative filmmaker David Bossie, worked with six other eye surgeons. The group performed about 250 surgeries, and he did about 20 of them.

Here is a lightly edited transcript of a phone conversation with the senator, who spent 17 years as a practicing ophthalmologist in Bowling Green, Ky.:

There are plenty of voters in the US that need pro bono help. Let the commies take care of themselves.

Headline: RAND PAUL ALL BUT CONFIRMS BID TO THE WHITE HOUSE BY BUYING SUPPORT WITH SURGERIES.

    Nope.

He's already doing/dig pro bono work in Kentucky anyway. Making a big spectacle of it doens't seem clever though

If you read/watched any of the information from his last trip you would see that these missions are a good way to have to work with extremely difficult cases, the types of surgeries that you dont' come across too often in the states. On his last trip he got to work with a guy considered the #1 doctor in the states, the guy that pretty much wrote the book on these surgeries. If anything these missions are giving him great surgical experience that can benefit him in his true career as a eye doctor. That alone is reason enough to do them.

China though? Isn't China up to its eyeballs in doctors already?
    In New Zealand:
    The Coastguard is a Charity
Air Traffic Control is a private company run on user fees
The DMV is a private non-profit
Rescue helicopters and ambulances are operated by charities and are plastered with corporate logos
The agriculture industry has zero subsidies
5% of the national vote, gets you 5 seats in Parliament
A tax return has 4 fields
    Business licenses aren't a thing
    Prostitution is legal
We have a constitutional right to refuse any type of medical care

There needs to be more publicity when Rand does this in the states. Right now, a lot of people feel entitled that Rand should help USA first... I love how people wants to force other people to do charity a certain way.
