American Douglas McAuthur McCain Dies Fighting for ISIS in Syria

The battle in itself seemed tragically normal. Two Syrian opposition groups fought and there were heavy casualties on both sides. Then victorious rebels rifled through the pockets of the dead. One contained about $800 in cash -- and an American passport.

Douglas McAuthur McCain, of San Diego, California, was killed over the weekend fighting for the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), according to the Free Syrian Army. Photos of McCain's passport and of his body -- which feature a distinctive neck tattoo -- have been seen by NBC News. According to an activist linked to the Free Syrian Army who also saw the body and travel document, McCain was among three foreign jihadis fighting with ISIS who died during the battle.

With a name like Douglas McAuthur McCain, the prefix of 'American' was entirely unnecessary. Sounds like an 80s action hero.

Yep,I don't have a problem with this. There was the Lincoln Brigade and the Lafayette Escadrille among others in previous wars for those who wanted to risk their lives and capital in foreign conflicts.

Just leave me and my tax dollars out of it.

Iraq’s Sunnis Will Kick Out ISIS After Dumping Maliki: Ex-CIA Official

A fighter of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Syria (ISIS) holds an ISIS flag and a weapon on a street in the city of Mosul on June 23, 2014 Reuters

Don’t panic, Iraq’s most powerful Sunnis are telling some old American friends. We’ll take care of these upstart ISIS nuts—as soon as they oust Nouri al-Maliki from Baghdad.
That’s the message Sheikh Ali Hatem al-Suleiman, leader of Iraq’s biggest Sunni tribe, gave John R. Maguire, a retired former CIA deputy station chief in Baghdad, when he visited Iraq three weeks ago to talk about future oil deals in the region.

And Maguire, a veteran senior CIA paramilitary official, believes it. The tribes that once worked with the Americans to defeat Al-Qaeda in Iraq, he insists, will again rise up again to oust its spawn, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria [ISIS]—a movement so extreme it was denounced by Osama bin Laden’s successor.

"Iraq is righting itself" along tribal and ethnic lines, says Maguire, who now runs a Virginia-based oil consulting business with two other CIA veterans of the Iraq war. He says he’s advised Sunni tribal leaders to spiff up their image.

As much of a monumental douche bag as this guy was, he still deserves credit for having the courage of his convictions. I wish everyone who thought this was such an important conflict to stoke had that courage, instead of being armchair pansies all excited to promote other people going to get their asses shot off.

Name management is amazing in other recent news where Danika Fears reports on another US American convert Mark Dunaway who had been flying same flag as that of ISIS for few years outside his NJ house.

A New Jersey resident raised an ISIS flag outside his home — upsetting neighbors who took it as a sign of support for the *jihadist group.
Mark Dunaway, 44, of Garwood, lowered the flag “voluntarily” after it was posted on Twitter and neighbors alerted the police, WPIX/Channel 11 reported.
