There are over a dozen threads right now about Rand Paul at the Democratic Underground. The hardcore partisan idiots over there realize that Paul is attracting Democrats and they are freaking out. Really funny to watch.

So let's see... back in 2008 and 2012 the only people who were capable of beating Obama were McCain and Romney because they'd get crossover votes. No one could ever say which crossover votes or really on which issues - but that's what the media told the sheeple anyways.

Was there ever this kind of freak out about McCain or Romney being the nominee at DU? Because I do find it amusing!

Those poor folks... having to look forward to 2+ years of being involuntarily pressed into supporting the Hillary campaign and the whole corporatist/neocon agenda that they despise. You're going to see cognitive dissonance from that crowd like you've never seen it before.

And the only major political figure who is championing a number of causes near and dear to them, from ending the drug war to the Orwellian security state, is a... Republican. And not only that, the Republican who will be running against the person they don't want to have to support.

Well, I'd say Rand is trending in the MSM in many ways on many issues. So, if I were a website, I too would post content regarding the current trend to drive up site traffic. I really don't see much more to it at this point.

I was thinking about participating in discussion over there in a fragmented way. Aside from the fact that I think the platform over there is laid out terrible, I've been called a liberal, a socialist, a leftist and just about every other term around here as well as advised that I don't belong here at RPF. I'm not a very political person in the contemporary way that activism has evolved but, really, would be interested in stimulating a broader dialogue than what I've read there so far. In fact, I probably wouldn't even reference the Pauls at all. If I do I'll just use the same screen name that I have here.

A Rand Paul nomination could be a game changer

The eventual Democratic nominee will be clobbered in a general election if she doesn't get on the correct side of these issues:

• Civil Liberties and the Surveillance State
• War and National Security
• Oppressive Sentencing Laws
• Cannabis Decriminalization

Paul will benefit from significantly more crossover voters than ANY Democratic nominee - the Racist/Redneck wing of the GOP will not vote D period. A lot of progressives will vote for Paul if these are "their" issues.


To beat Rand Paul, we will need a nominee from the Democratic wing of the party.

FOX News Special Report just ran a 3min segment specifically on how Rand turns the tables on Hillary Clinton on war, Ferguson and demilitarizing of police.

The sound-bytes (which echo the points being made by the Anti-Clinton DU-ers) plus the fact that it's FOX News that's making them =throwing a tanker full of gasoline onto the fire already burning between anti-Clinton vs pro-Clinton progressives.

The best way to troll those forums is to act like one of them to the extreme. Say you're "against Rand because he'll end the war." That "Hillary has my vote because she'll Nuke ISIS and spy on anyone against nuking ISIS." "Nuking ISIS is great because they are against abortion rights."

It's funny hitting forum like that and seeing what you can say as long as you vote for the right person. The Hannity forum is just as bad. In 2008 Some friends and I tried getting banned by being an over the top neocon. It didn't happen as easy as I thought. I finally just got bored with that game. However mention an interest in Ron Paul and bam! you're gone.

Gawd with the exception for a few posters, the majority of folks over there could not be more narrow minded. I used to think that only the hardcore Team Red was capable of that amount of stupidity. Turns out the hardcore Team Blue has EXACTLY the same mentality. It was never about the issues or the policies. It's about the letter behind their names. How sad.

I was reading at DU for half an hour or so and one thing struck me: Damn these people are hateful, they are xenophobic as can be. They pretend to hate racism but replace skin color with ideology. They refuse to see the facts, I mean, you have to be a very sorry excuse of a human being to call Rand a racist. Anyone that's truly honest with themselves has to say that Rand is a very inclusive person. Only those that politicize anything out of a deep sense of hate would say these things.

Although there seem to be a bunch of people -I did not study them too well- that do note like Hillary (they call her HRC, I thought that was for Human Rights Campaign but whatever) plenty of people still say they would support her. The funny thing is, everyone there seems to be afraid of pressure by others there not to say anything bad about Hillary. They all seem to think she would win big time over Rand. Good comedy.
