Governor Perry indicted on felony criminal charges for abuse of power

Indicted on two felony charges: abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public servant.

A grand jury has chosen to indict Texas Gov. Rick Perry following an investigation into whether the governor abused his power by vetoing state funds for the Travis County District Attorney's Office last year.

Perry vetoed state funds for the office after District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg refused to resign following a DWI conviction.

After the veto, Perry said he could not give money to Lehmberg's office because she had lost the public's confidence after her arrest in April 2013. Lehmberg pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 45 days in jail. She served 21 days.

Upon his indictment, Perry must turn himself in to the Travis County Jail, where he will be booked, fingerprinted and have his mug shot taken. A pre-trial hearing will be arranged within the next few weeks.

So much for Perry being a challenge to Rand Paul.

I guess the glasses still don't make him seem any smarter.

Weird story. Looks like he was indicted by a grand jury in the same jurisdiction as the DA's office that he allegedly offended.

this could be Perry's Scott Walker moment, his badge of honor. I really don't see how they could get a conviction especially if there is a change in venue. I am not a Perry fan of course, but I call them as I see them. Remember the Bush people hate Perry as much as the democrats do.

    Sure is.

He's getting all kinds of sympathy from team red.

Even claims it's because of his "TOUGH" boarder stance.

I'll dance on Rick Perry's political grave. I only hope Texans aren't as dumb as they've been and don't make the next governor another emperor.

I wonder if it would make good politics for Rand Paul to call it a liberal witch hunt and defend Rick Perry...which it is.

    Pros:
    - Rand would look magnanimous and a team player in supporting his fellow Republican against liberals
    - Might draw more coverage and attention to the indictment among Republicans

    Cons:
    - TV ad by Democrats saying that Rand Paul loves corruption and attacking "clean government" so much he supported his "fellow crony" Rick Perry.
    - Turns off liberals that he might be courting right now.

Rand doesn't have enough information to comment, and should stay out of it. He should respect Texas' 10th Amendment right to deal with their own issues without federal officials butting in.

“The people of the various provinces are strictly forbidden to have in their possession any swords, bows, spears, firearms, or other type of arms. The possession of these elements makes difficult the collection of taxes and dues and tends to permit uprising, therefore, the heads of the provinces, official agents, and deputies are ordered to collect all weapons mentioned above and turn them over to the government.”

The funny part is that the Dems must think Perry has a snowballs chance in Hell of becoming president. Ultimately though this is is vendetta politics. As much as I can't stand Rick Perry, this is the equivalent to a grand libtard whining session which will cost taxpayers to litigate it.
