GRAND RAPIDS, MI — U.S. Rep. Justin Amash and his Democratic challenger, Bob Goodrich, met to discuss politics over coffee Friday morning.
The Eastown meeting lasted a little more than a half hour as the two talked about the recent primary and how they would engage with each other leading up to the November general election.
Perhaps most notably, Amash, R-Cascade Township, and Goodrich agreed to joint forums with the public to discuss issues facing constituents of the Third District, said Lauren Mallas, Goodrich's spokeswoman. She added the meeting did not dwell too much on the issues themselves as the candidates agreed to talk about them more openly with residents.

"It was a very pleasant meeting and both really expressed a desire to be in the public, to get them involved and have a conservation, said Mallas, who also writes for MLive's sister publication, On the Town.
