Baltimore's new curfew — among the strictest in the country — takes effect Friday amid mixed reaction

    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/new-balt...ts-kids-upset/

Beginning Friday night, kids younger than 14 must be indoors by 9 p.m.; for kids 14-16 its 10 p.m. on school nights and 11 p.m. other nights. Police will bring violators to two connection centers until they can be picked up by their parents.
While parents will not face jail time, the new law fines parents up to $500.

And most crimes committed by young people occur between the hours of 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., right after school lets out, according to Laura Furr, a researcher at the National League of Cities.
“Responses to youth crime that are just enforcement response do not address the needs of the youth that are causing the negative behavior,” she said.
Furr, along with groups like the Coalition of Juvenile Justice, advocate for approaches that tend to focus more on involving community members than having the police penalize just being outside.
Some see the problem with curfews as even more heinous. The Maryland branch of the American Civil Liberties Union suggested the curfew might lead to the criminalization of youth and “the use of force.”

There's only one thing I want to know here.

How can any Christian cop* justify being a part of this? Parents are supposed to parent their children, not the government.

*To a certain extent I could ask non-Christians the same thing, but I know some of them have no god but the State. There is no excuse for a Christian to think that way. And by saying that I am not intending to imply that all non-Christians are statists, which is obviously not the case.

    ka-ching! Yep, sounds like Baltimore...

    results:
    16yo's loose shifts
higher electric bills - when it's hot here, people hit the porch. Now they will have to hit the AC.
kids denied opportunities that run late - being in plays, first aid classes, etc.
theaters will loose money. so will stores.
Yet another way to mess with HS parties.
the city gets a cash cow.
    the public get robbed...

    Yeppers, BMore...

is there a time when it's lifted. some people get up at 4 to go jogging. We have a breakfast place that opens at 6am, and they probably start cooking at 5. teens work there...

Its harder to force people who have some vote and money. Even if it is logical.

How wonderful this is, and the government can provide those services for free by using the fines to fund it!

People might start moving there, if for no other reason, just to be young again and safe again.
