My most memorable moments as a child was playing tag in the young trees with my 2 brothers. No assembly required.
A father just needs to be there to talk to you when you need it, and mostly just to listen as you learn.
Don't be so hard on yourself. Providing the environment to experiment and learn is the most important.

That is pretty cool, my sons were really into space stuff when they were little and would've loved something like that. They used to sit in boxes for hours with their spaceman hats on pretending they were in rockets communicating with each other via cheap ass walkie talkies. My only regret is not building something like that, it's not recording some of their hilarious conversations. My oldest son was obsessed with finding a "monkey in a bunny suit", he was certain that's what aliens would look like.

My son and I built a city out of cardboard boxes. I did not have a scroll saw or a rivet gun back then that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I can't even watch it and I know I've failed...dammit.
The more I think about it, the more I think this dad needs his ass kicked. Maybe build a Vostok replica, wheel it up on his front lawn, have some cosmonauts get out and bust up the place.
